A man was tased and arrested on a Utah highway after being stopped by an officer and refusing to sign a speeding ticket because he did not understand what offence he had committed or why he had been pulled over.
Personally, I think the guy that got tased was as courteous as possible under the conditions. The cop never even clocked him, ha. Apparently all charges were dropped, but the speeding ticket stands?

ROFL what a dork. all he had to do was cooperate. its not hard to sign a citation, and even if he had doubts or questions, thats for the courts, not the side of the road.
lol, that lady was sure freaking out though...
imo, the officer was very proffesional about it all and the dude just wouldnt shut the hell up. he had to keep asking questions (the same stupid 10y/o would-ask-these-questions kind of questions) and then he decides to walk back to the car after the officer told him to get down.
thats a big nono. the officer has to assume the worst. either hes evading arrest or hes going to get a weapon, regardless of the guys demeanor. so the cop ended a potential threat before it could get worse.
rofl, though. bravo to some of the idiots in this country...

for one, the cop pulled over so the guy could pass him. that in itself is way to fast, and secondly theres no way to tell wether or not the cop clocked him, seeing as how we only see out of a 2 inch camera on the dashboard.
and the ticket still stands because it ends uup the cop was completely in the right. the charges were dropped because it turned out that the guy was resisting arrest.
go figure. the cops did what was right

What ever happened to the good old days where you'd just get a beat down with a night stick? All these cops are taze happy nowadays and every month you hear about someone dying from it.
Hmm.. it turns out people's heart's just DON'T like 50K volts.
Part of me wants to start carrying around my own tazer. Whenever a copy tries to use it on someone I know who poses no threat I might be tempted to pull mine out and use it on the cop to see how he likes it.
That article reads:
"In the last year over 300 people have died in admitted cases in the US alone from being tased".
That's almost ONE per DAY.
And this hasn't sent a signal out to lawmakers yet? WTF? I bet 99% of these people probably could have been just as easily subdued with pepper spray.

My prediction: after years and years of legislation and public outrage, they will pass the Taser Public Safety Act, which will basically require the cops to shout out "Sir, you are about to be tased, if you have any preexisting heart or other medical conditions state them now!" followed by a "huh?" by the vict.. err I mean threat - followed by a "zzzp zzpp zzpp" and then moaning.
Whenever they moan, you can tell they deserved it.

the officer immediately went for the taser when the guy was acting neither aggressively or abnormally.
I think it's within your right to question the validity of a citation.
I don't think it's reasonable for officers to immediately go for their tasers.
it's not acceptable behavior for law enforcement.

regardless of his demeanor, once he starts backing towards his car, the officer has to assume the guy is going for a weapon.
though 300 deaths does sound a little overdoing it. lower the voltage?
in any case, like Syle said, people feel justified in any action they do. they are too full of themselves.
and just for the record, cops must experience anything they use (except guns, of course) including tasering, pepper spray, and rubber bullets.

the title of this thread is misleading. the driver was tasered for resisting arrest. he was told why he was stopped.
you know that.
1. when you get a traffic ticket, you must sign it to acknowledge that you received the ticket. signing the ticket is not an acknowledgement of guilt. as citizens, this policy is obviously in our own interests. it would not be good if traffic citations could be filed against us without us knowing about them.
2. if you refuse to acknowledge when you receive a ticket, it undermines the said policy. it is therefore not in anyone's interest to allow people to simply refuse to acknowledge a speeding ticket.
3. if someone does refuse to sign a ticket (again, not an admission of guilt, simply an affirmation that the defendant is aware of the charges), the only recourse is to place them under arrest.
4. if the defendant resists arrest, force must be used to render them into compliance.
5. a taser is a good alternative to an old fashioned beat down.
here we have an officer making a reasonable request of a citizen, which is refused, then making the reasonable decision to place that citizen under arrest, which is resisted, then making the reasonable decision to use physical force in response.
this guy was an idiot and hopefully the video helps convict him of resisting arrest as well as speeding.

he didn't say that he was placing him under arrest.
the driver says something like where's the sign, the officer simply asks him to get out of the vehicle...he's got his eye on the driver the whole time and the minute the guy points down the highway and asks the question again the officer wheels around and points a taser at him.
I agree, I would just sign the ticket and go on my merry way, but I think it's fair for someone to question an officer at the scene while the facts are still fresh.
It just looks like this guy got baited, from my pov.

he told him to turn around and put his hands behind his head. the guy started walking back to the vehicle. he had every reason to use force at that point.
if the guy wanted to know where the sign was, he was free to check for himself later. it's not the officer's job to serve a defendant with all of the evidence against them at the time of their arrest.

I would buy that line of argument if he had said "please step out of the car, I'm placing you under arrest"
instead, the guy asks a question and the officer responds with "please step out of the vehicle" as though he was going to entertain the questioning.
that's the way I perceived it when I watched the vid.
the officer just up ended on the guy, if I were in that situation I don't think I would have processed it all fast enough to comply before the guy fired off the taser.
so quick to the trigger.
the driver appears quite non threatening.
again, this is just my perspective and opinion...we can argue this shit all day, but I think videos like these are indicative of the problem with tasers...the are TOO EASY to use on citizens.

you CLEARLY have no idea what you're talking about.
police are trained to assume the worst. they are actually told that if the suspect disobeys you and reaches for something or moves somewhere he was told not to go, then the police officer MUST assume he is reaching for a weapon(regardless of how "harmless" he looks) for not only the police officers safety, but the safety of any bystanders (in this case, the woman in the car).

You're saying that the cop did everything right.
Others are saying he did everything wrong.
Can't we all just admit that both the officer and the offender acted wrongly? Its pretty damn obvious in this situation.
