David Bromberg, when he feels like doing it, is also a fabulous bluegrass musician.

i don't like country at all, but johnny cash is the shit, kid.
that guy was gangsta LONG before it became a staple of west coast rap music. he did it with class and finesse.

johnny cash is good. there were a lot of gangsta folk musicians back in the day, too. like leadbelly, who was a double murderer and it's said sang himself out of prison.

Ive said it once and Ill say it again. Strength in numbers - the telluride sessions.
Like their name sort of implies, they are an supergroup of bluegrass and americana, but unlike many supergroups, this one is as just as good, if not better than it should seem to be, attaining strength from numbers if you get my drift.
Strength in numbers is: Sam Bush + Jerry Douglas + Béla Fleck + Mark O'Connor + Edgar Meyer
The album is progressive bluegrass with jazz structures, but also adds elements from classical music as well.
I dont have it on my computer to post, but i think i made a post a while back of a few of their songs, so if you do a search you might find some examples.

personally i don't really like progressive/jazzy bluegrass. i like more of an old-time jug band feel.. with bluegrass instruments, just not as based on solos as bluegrass traditionally is.
but i have been learning to play a mean bluegrass banjo. it's only a matter of time until i get more into all that.
johnnywax what bands have you seen there? i probably know most of them. my girlfriend is in blair st. mugwumps, bad mitten (really great all-girl gypsy cabaret folk), and was in inkwell rhythm makers.

More of a contemporary spin, but check out Nickel Creek.

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are amazing..... get your hands on "Live Art". I'm really interested in checking out Strength In Numbers, that sounds like an excellent combination.
