I love my family, the holidays, children, and tradition. Am I the only sentimental person left on this planet?

I wouldn't consider myself sentimental, but it sounds good to me

not at all - i love my family, my soon to be hubby - i had a good job - i live in a great place - i write - i enjoy life and the people around me.
I think it is easier to be maudlin, then to look for bright spots in your life. Dont get me wrong , there are lots of bad things going on with me - but i dont use them to define me. I just identify them and work around them, even the hard ones.

Coming from you this thread title made me laugh. Being sentimental has nothing to do with whether or not you are cynical, and I would say you have a healthy dose of both!

I got tired of family tradition ages ago.
I dread the Christmas holidays - all those jingles and carols. MAKE IT STOP !!!
Besides, Christmas is just a blown out-of-proportion ad to everyone to start buying stuff, right?
I think the only people who really like Christmas are stores. They take in the most money this time of year.
I get to spend quality time with my close friends at least twice a week, so who needs a special holiday for that?

I think it's more that you have good family that you can hang with, lots of people hate their in laws and drink heavily during the holidays to compensate.

You may be onto something. Its been a long running theory of mine that American Idol is the biggest Pigparty ever.
at least the run up to is. i cant look away, and i am disgusted simultaneously at the open call part of american idol. once it comes down the 'contest' part - i couldnt care less. everybody loves a funny.

I love my family, the holidays, and family traditions. I also love anything that has to do with my childhood (movies, games, places, etc.). I love my job and most of everything about my life. School on the other hand, I'm really not "feeling" it at all. And most children irritate me...

SS7, the older I get the more I feel like there is no truth in life and that we are merely intelligent animals who are just as controlled by instinct and evolutionary advantage as animals are. It's easy to get cynical when you have that lingering in your head.

I'm very sentimental, but not about what the culture says I should be. If something moves me, then I cherish it & fully enjoy it, even if others think it is silly.
IMO, cynicism is just an angry mask for depression. Yes, there are ugly aspects to life, but there is also so much beauty and wonder. Those who are deeply depressed can only see the ugliness, and their anger motivates them to denigrate those who appreciate the beauty and wonder they can no longer see.
