Habitat: Found growing on a redwood forest floor in humus. Elevation was approx 160ft above sea level.

Gills: pale white

Stem: a yellowish color

Cap: Organish brown in the middle fading to a light yellowish brown at the very ends.

Spore print: A grayish color

Bruising: No noticeable color changes from bruising.

Location: Eureka CA.

Caulorhiza umbonata, the Redwood Rooter.


Try pulling it up really carefully next time as opposed to snipping it with the scissors.  It's much cooler.

Cool vid CC. Maybe those lepiotas are just a normal fungi and one thing that all mushroom hunters have in common is magic fingers. Ever think of that one?

Wow, the way that stained red like that was crazy! As far as my question goes on the topic of bluing, i should not expect an active to blue like that when doing a field test on a suspected active should it? Don't mean to divert the attention from the original post, but this is exactly the kind of vid/demonstration i was inquiring about on the topic of bluing.. So i have to ask. Thanks!

yes you should  , i mean i see that all the time , opps sorry i forgot you where not in mexico .sad, only few can see a blue reaction as fast as that ,:tripping: i dig slugs and salamanders.
