Just because a certain culture was known for putting the needs of others ahead of their own, traveling, new and unconventional ideas and inovation, living in the now, drug use, hedonism, and trying to bring back the good ole days doesn't mean that lifestyle is gone forever or only found in hidden locations.
Long hair, tye dyes, and weed no more makes a hippie than putting a computer in your garage and calling it a car. Open your eyes and do not fear.

exactly. i feel the same way as the original poster, but i also understand that i was born in this era for a reason. Our time will come.

I think you're forgetting about all the unrest and turmoil during the 60's that was happening almost simultaneously with your misguided utopian vision of the counterculture movement. Like the thousands dying in the Vietnam War, which (so far) went on a lot longer than our current clusterfuck in Iraq. Like the civil rights movement. That wasn't all fun and games, you know. The assassination of MLK and Bobby Kennedy. The riots at Watts. Women fighting oppression. Sure, the 60's seem like they might have been fun, and its easy to idealize them, but there was a lot of bullshit in the 60's too.
Why not try and live to the fullest in THIS decade instead of wishing you could've been back in the 60's?

Most Shroomerites have, at least at one time, wished that they had grown up in the 60's. It certainly would have been a great time to be alive as long as you weren't drafted and/or a minority.
Besides the drugs, it would have been a great time to be alive just for the simple fact that during the height of the hippie era, it was cool to be a nice person! Now, it's cool to be a complete asshole.
