just eat em and label next time
you might be able to tell once they are mature, but it might be tough depending on how similar those strains are. Check out pics on some of the sponser sites.

The name of the strain doesn't mean anything in mushrooms. Eat and enjoy. RR

I'll field that one:
Because they'll mess you up either way!
Most of the variances in potency and so on are down to how the mushrooms are grown, not what strain they are. Eg: A 'potent strain' won't make up for bad substrate, temperatures, lighting conditions, sterile technique, fruiting preparation and chamber. A 'less-potent strain' grown with good technique will be enjoyed by all, however

yeah but the thing is that if you have them on similar substrates, their genetic differences shine thru..

The whole point is that there really isnt much genetic variation between strains - they are all variations of the *same species*. The variations are generally only mild differences in physical appearance and growth rates, as well as the potential maximum percentage of active ingredients given a specific growth medium.
A lot of the time you may not be able to tell the difference at all unless you have had a lot of experience with different strains - maybe not even then 100% of the time. Some you will, especially with 'mutant' or 'novelty' strains with specific recognisable characteristics such as Penis Envy or Texas, the former looking like its name-sake and the latter having generally smaller and quite dense fruits when compared to other strains.
The end point is that people generally grow them for the end result: something that will bring about a state of altered consciousness that is considered enjoyable and potentially spiritual. If you happen to personally favour a given strain that is all very well, as the experience one has from any given one is highly subjective: what may give one person good visuals and a great body-high - a generally pleasurable experience - may give another feelings of 'rushing', paranoia, fear, and hard-to handle hallucinations - a generally intense experience...
So don't put too much stake in strains, thats all RR is saying - they are names and not a lot more for the most part. Enjoy!
Cheers - boingkster

I think it happens to everyone when starting out..
as you progress in this HOBBY you will start to appreciate the importance of labeling EVERYTHING include dates, important info ..IE substrate kinds , and so forth.. I find that micro pore tape is easy to write on and comes of when necessary without leaving a sticky residue..( specially helpfull when you reuse containers)
