Ok so I'm allergic to Mushrooms..like the normal kind you find in your moms spaghetti and I'm also allergic to penicillin. And I really want to try shrooms. However I'm afraid my throat will swell up and all the bad jazz. I have a friend who is allergic to mushrooms but not shrooms...so I'm not sure if I would be...anyone have any insight?

Wow... now why did you pick that allergy? I don't know what to tell you, I guess you might give it a shot. I am slightly allergic to shrooms, but I can handle tripping without any major inconveniences. Maybe you could try, first with a low dose like 0.5 g dried and see what happens. If it's ok, go gradually up. If not, it means that there's nothing you can really do about it. Good luck and happy trails. Ahhh yes, and keep us up to date.

Never eat them raw and cook them thoroughly over high heat.

Hm, well, some people get "allergic" reactions to some otherwise safe edible species. Usually the symptoms are stomach upset and vomiting, but nothing life threatening.
The ones in your moms spaghetti are probably your regular "White Button Mushrooms" or Agaricus. Have you tried any other varieties before and gotten sick from them also? Like Portabello, Shiitake, Oysters, Morels, ect. Some species you may have an allergic reaction to while others you might not.
A rule of thumb while trying a different mushroom species for the first time, is to only eat no more than two small spoonfuls, just a sampling, that way if you do have an allergic reaction to them it will not be too severe and you will know to avoid eating them again. This mainly pertains to people who hunt their own edibles in the wild, as there are hundreds of different edibles to find and many books label their edibility as "Edible, safe, but with with caution, some people have allergic reactions to them".
Just the other day in the Hunting forum we had a guy eat up a large portion of a edible Bolete mushroom which he found in the wild and correctly identified, and he got sick hours after eating it and went to the emergency room for it. The ER visit was not neccessary tho, he just panic. He just had a allergic reaction from a mushroom known to do that to many people, nothing life threatening or damageing to the body, just something you need to ride out for the night and feel better the next morning.
With Psilocybian mushrooms, I've never really heard of anyone having an allergic reaction to them. Some people dont like them because they give them gastrointestinal upset, gas which makes it uncomfortable. Some people vomit from eating Psilocybian mushrooms, but after they puke they feel better and it is not like they will feel poisoned throughout the rest of their trip. They just puke for some reason, maybe out of nervousness, maybe because they dislike the flavor when eating Psilocybes and feel that flavor strewing around in their stomachs and end up puking.. but Psilocybian mushrooms are in no way "poisonous", they are "hallucinogenic" yes, but the toxicity level of Psilocybian mushrooms hallucinogenic chemicals (mainly Psilocybin and Psilocin) is so low that you could ingest hundreds of pounds of them in one sitting and still do no major damage to your body. You would without question completely lose your mind for a few days minimum from doing that, feeling like you are dieing or that youve been "poisoned", but really it would do very little (if any) damage to your body.
I would say give them a go. Start with a dried gram of Psilocybe cubensis and see how you react to it. From eating a dried gram you wouldnt get too sick and at least learn if your body reacts well to them or not. It would be a small risk to have to take to at least experience Psilocybe mushrooms once in your life.
