Found this guy (Boletus Edulis, possibly Aereus) yesterday morning and served it up for my whole family, it was wonderful sauteed in onions and garlic!

What state did you find that? Looks very different from CA Kings.

Northern cali, yeah, it may have been boletus aereus, not absolutely positive on the subspecies, but it was completely covered in leaves in an extremely moist spot, which might have explained the slightly darker than normal color on the one side of the cap, but from what I hear they do very from yellow to red brown.

Certainly, they vary. But I was just making an over all observation, based on the tons of porcini I've picked from different spots in north CA.
I find that when the pins are fully covered, and not exposed to light, they are extremely light in colour, often albino!
Cool mushroom, I like the colours of yours.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are those, there are thousands of them in my local park. They are good eats, yes? Not active right..

They are Honey Mushrooms, Armillaria. Some people like them, others do not, and yet others get GI upset from them. They must be cooked THOROUGHLY, and as always, be 100% positive of you ID.

Mmmm, honey shrooms! Bit of advice, if you have any stomach ulcers/colitis/irritable bowl syndrome, don't eat them. You'll feel like you have a belly full of broken glass(w/ s. ulcer, personal experience). I know a chick with irritable bowl, that said when she ate them it felt like passing razors. As with any mushroom, eat a small portion and wait to see how you react to them BEFORE you eat a whole bunch of them. Personally, I eat them by the basket full, when I can find them. Very good eating!

well my friend, not sure of your location, but if you are anywhere near PDX, may i say Kelly point park seems to be a harvesting ground for these things. I never see any one there picking anything either. I go there religiously to look at what a certain mushroom i may be interested in at that time may look like days latter. Cuz im learning like that ya know.. Any way, thank you thank you thank you for the heads up on the GI situation on them, i do suffer from IBS, and that is always a huge deterrent upon eating a lot of eddies i would love to try. But hey, i just like the hunt to be honest.. BTW, is it ok to point out places like that? Hope so, seeings how we are talking about eddies, and not actives, i just thought it would be kosher..

I looked at it on google maps. It is a large enough area, that I am not gonna stress on it. But yeah, don't get any more specific.

Honeys are exploding right now. I saw a ton in the park.

Be careful, I saw postings indicating areas of the park had been sprayed with roundup.

Thanks for the compliment.
It's a decent camera, but a good camera is on my Christmas wish list!
