Yea that's too bad. It sucks. Even with federal holidays we Americans work like 20 more days a year than most Europeans and we still have companies forcing people with nonessential jobs to work on the few days we have off that are supposed to be reserved for family occasions.

my point is, we shouldn't need a federal holiday to tell us when to get together with our family.

i just think it would be better if more people embraced their families on a daily basis, or on their own schedule - not on the schedule of the government and corporations.
It sounds like you are attempting to make a point where there is none, your viewpoint is idealized.
My family is scattered between Boston and Orlando - we don't see each other often except for on the well established "Federal Holidays" of which we all know the dates. People are busy at different times throughout the year and having a few holidays in which the average person is given time off, or is expected to take time off, makes it easier and smarter to gather on those holidays.

what thanksgiving is really about
Thanksgiving, like anything else, is what you make of it.
The propaganda and the commercialism is there for you if you seek it. When my family gets together it is for the sole purpose of being together - no parades, nor American history nor football. I'm fairly certain most of us are well aware of the reality of our history and the last thing on my mind on Thanksgiving Day is Pilgrims and Indians.
So enough with the rampant blanket-statements and OMGCorporateAmericaFederalManipulation extremist pseudo-argument.

lol, ya.. for one party to look beyond it. while the natives were the ones being looked beyond.

or perhaps you are looking for an intention where there isn't one.

sorry, my reply was on topic. regarding the exploitation of the holiday. your reply seems to be targeted directly at my statements. so enough of that

Holidays true meanings are whatever you make of them. To me, it's getting together with family who live hundreds and thousands of miles away from me. We don't sit down and say grace or go around the table and say what we're thankful for.

I disagree with your statements and that is why my reply should be targeted directly at your statements. Argumentation theory, are we catching on yet?
