After seeing a number of posts regarding Salvia and those who are in search of answers, it felt appropriate to post another source of information that might point us in the right direction and/or cause some sort of discussion regarding this awesome molecule...
Initially I did a search to see if this info was posted and to my surprise the name was mentioned a few times but it was far and few between... The author's Wiki entry falls short of what he was really about and the importance of his conclusions. His research and own experience with GHB, Salvia and Conscious Dreaming is really inspiring and I believe he deserves more recognition and respect.

Interesting article. Salvia and DMT although completely different, there is no doubt in my mind they must share some similarities.

That was also Claude Rifat's conclusion back in 1976 as he hypothesized the role of DMT in the CNS:
Hallucinogens are 5-HT2A receptor agonists. Such receptors seem to be involved in the initiation and termination of dreams (through dopamine activation) as deduced from introspective observations. The main characteristic of dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is its short-acting effect which immediately makes you think that DMT has some specific role to play in the CNS. Endogenous DMT, or related compounds (5-Meo-DMT), is perfectly suited to be a short-acting efficient endogenous 5-HT2A agonist produced in the initiation and termination of oneiric phenomena or in other processes meant to sustain the high metabolic activity found in oneiric phenomena. Due to the sensitivity of the 5-HT2A receptors to downregulation by agonists the very short-acting effect of DMT at those receptors thus seem to lead naturally to the hypothesis that DMT is functional in oneiric phenomena. My idea, then, is that DMT is cyclically produced or used during the REM phase of dreaming. If this is so, abnormalities of endogenous DMT pathways could lead to spontaneous hallucinations or dream-like episodes. In this context it would be particularly interesting to study the eventual links between DMT and the diterpene salvinorin A as far as REM sleep is concerned.
