Simple answer no....

It cost about $30 to get a basic setup going, look at the teks for PF and just do it yourself

Hard to say.

1 case vs 12 cakes

12 cakes if tended to right can and will produce more. Also concider if you get a contam in a cake you lose 1/12. Lose a case and lose 1/1.

Also concider to refil 12 cakes cost about $7 per run

I will not bash you for buying a kit. If you have no experience with growing it is ok. At least you will get sterilized medium and if handled correctly, you should get results. Yes, you could have done it on your own but this kind of guarantees you some success. After growing this one, pay attention to what you get and try on your own. The results are better and the enjoyment is more fulfilling but the failures hurt more too. Its a good way to start. Now you will know how the mushy cycle should go when you try it on your own without a kit.

personally IMO, all i will ever need from the sponsers is a syringe. these kits work great for the lazy ppl i guess, but i feel that if we didnt have people that want to DIY, we would still be using the same shitty methods as yesterday.

Well damn they really don't tell you anything about it at all. I can however guarantee you that you will not have as good an outcome like pictured your first try and surely nowhere near the 500g number they give.

Hopefully this will spark further interest into the hobby for you though and you can do a lot more research on here. It pays off, I promise.

Hey guys at least hes not asking a million newb questions to get results. Hes trying to do it on his own so what if he learns it this way, it will answer so many questions and cure many insecurities he would have otherwise gone through. I never used a kit but I did fail a time or two before getting it. Now I laugh at the kits online. But only cause I know better. I say "good job!" You may have wasted some money, but your education is worth it. Next time make your own kit! Write down your progress as you grow and apply your lessons when you give it a go. And as always, keep reading here on the forum! +5 for self motivation.

thats why you gotta shoot them bitches up w/ MAD LC...if you know howto get your moisture content perfect, you can easily shoot them up w/ 20-30 cc's of LC w/o fuxin up your moisture content

it looks like they are shipping live mycelium, thats illegal. it also looks like all your getting is a little cheap plastic food tray and a clear plastic bag for $45. frankly that kit looks like about $2 worth of stuff

also taken from there page

Shipping restrictions, we do not ship this product to: Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, New Zealand, United States.

just my 2c

I agree, a good friend sent my well 2 prints. One pan and one cube. I have not touched the pan but the cube print has been turned into 100's of qt's of LC and plenty of mistakes hehe.

everyone still fucks up. dont think that youll get mushrooms without any problems so easily. buy plenty of lysol/alcohol/oust and be clean! thats the biggest tip i can give you.

mycologists have two goals.

1. recreate ideal growing condition.
2. fight off contaminates that want to steal those growing conditions.

the way it looks as its just a big cake, treat it like one i guess, from what i gathered you just peal the plastic off, dunk it for moisture then put it in the bag and close it, i wonder about how it gets FAE

Here is my problem with growkits and THIS site

you get on this site.. you order a growkit.. by the time it arrives you realize how easy it was to build it and now you have a sub par kit that you don't want to use anymore.

Be a noob here for 2 weeks and then you can build whatever setup you want..

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Lots of people have started with kits, and they're a great way to learn the ropes. I'd suggest looking at our vendor page before ordering, and see what they have to offer. While you're growing the kit, you'll have plenty of time to study the boards here and learn what you need to know. Good luck.

Didn't wanted to start another thread,i just got the kit, well the instructions are basically to dunk it in water for 6 hours(should i dunk it in water and put it in the fridge,so it will be cold but above freezing temperature?),drain the water and put it in the bag and close the bag with a paper clip, but what about misting/fanning,and so on?
whats the best way to Handel the cake?
BTW heres the instructions

Do a search for "dunk and roll" and then "cold shock" first is a very good idea. Second, not so much for cubes.

i searched it already,it says " Temperature during the dunking should be cold, or as cool as possible and still above freezing.
Time spent dunking should be not less than 6 hours for minimal benefits. 12 hours is about right for dunking in between flushes and at birth but 24 hours is the maximum for full re-hydration of nearly spent cakes. "
so i need to dunk it for 12 hours in fridge?

I know this thread is rather old but still, like RR wrote earlier, grow kits can be a good way to start and there might be people out there still looking for this kind of information.
You might want to build a SAB, apply plenty of alcohol, and use the kit to start rye cultures. With the rest you can fill a monotub and two weeks later the whole thing might look like this.
