Karo is just the brandname of corn syrup in the US. Any corn syrup usually found in the maple syrup section of your grocery store will work just fine.

People use karo over Honey most of the time just because it comes in a clear version that will make seeing your mycelium much easier. Having used Honey myself for the first time this week, i love it. It was incredibly easy and fully colonized in 4-5 days without any contaminations (2 jars). In about 2 days the LC was usable and ive proven this because i inoculated 5 full pint pf jars and they began to colonize in only about 2.7 days... incredible performance compared to spore syringe alone. Also it multiplies your total usable inoculation medium by about 200 times or some. If you can't find clear corn syrup, just use the honey tek.
in 240ml jar:
-fill only about 2-2.5 inches of water -2 teaspoons of honey (clear generic brand, avoid cloudy honey) -And personally, i add about 2-3 eye drops of bleach before i sterilize the LC solution in a PC OR Just plain PF-style sterilization(30 minutes from time of boil).
For a stir-stick i just flame sterilized wire that i added in through the inoculation whole after i sterilized the jar and inoculated it. (when i started to see mycelium growth)
Here are some pictures that are in my LC thread: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/7654398/an/0/page/3

well...the karo is already showing growth not even 24 hours after inoculation. there are much larger chunks that i took. the original clone is in a Baby bottle, no air exchange. i wanted to make other LC's off it that had air exchange. they tend to do better, and yes, big chunks are already being formed! honey no activity...yet.
