Laptop keeps freezing :( (Vista)
    #7661406 - 11/21/07 01:17 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Hey everyone, i have a Gateway Laptop running shitty Vista (came with it installed) which works fine as long as i keep using it but as soon as i leave it alone for more than a few minutes the whole thing freezes... the mouse can be moved but nothing works including ctrl-alt-del so i cant even get into task manager, i have to hold down the power button to reset it and its really getting on my nerves... can anyone shed any light on this problem? Thanks

the only light i can shed is that vista blows big nutsack...

none the less, go into the power management settings, wherever they are, and see if you turn off all the power management, things like monitor sleep, harddrive sleep, hibernation, whatever else set to never, if that fixes it, then its probably the sleep mode causing problems.

also, have you gone online and downloaded all the updates for vista?

peace

i have never had any problems with vista. i would recomend an update though, as that would be a likely fix. another one would be regular upkeep. make sure your virus protection, disk cleanup/defrag are updated and used regularly. make sure your hardware drivers (usually found at the homepage of your computer manufacturer) and vista itself are updated.

also check your power management settings, like supra said, and uncheck anything that causes something to stop after time.

if all else fails, go get ubuntu.

good luck

I'm running Ubuntu atm...

and i wouldnt recomend uninstalling the gateway preinstalled programs. I got some quickplay crap with my hp laptop and i uninstalled it and it contained drivers for my webcam.

best just to leave those and not use them.

You use Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open task manager in Vista.

Ctrl+Alt+Del opens a menu with different stuff now.
