tupperware in pressure cooker?
    #766110 - 07/21/02 11:08 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Well the topic is fairly self explanatory. Is it possible to use tupperware containers in the pressure cooker (I will be using foil lids like the Simple PF Tek suggests).

They might survive it, or not.
A trial is in order....

hey,

Im not 100% sure, but i have asked a few people, and most say, "If its Microwave safe, it shouldnt be a problem at all"

I guess there is only one way to find out tho

A trial is indeed in order, will post when test has completed. I am not concerned about the heat, the heat is not high enough for the tupperware to burn. I am concerned about the pressure as tupperware can 'detonate' its tops in the microwave so its possible it might do the same in the pressure cooker. I guess if foil lids will not come off glasses it is unlikely this will be a problem with tupperware.

Any further thoughts?

The foil lids on the glasses is an imperfect seal. The seal created with the tupperware lid on the other hand is quite effective and could easily allow enough pressure to blow the lids.

a hole for(filtered) gas exchange will eliminate the pressure but the top may come off as the plastic cools .so tin foil would be necessary as you said..
