I believe they need gas exchange during colonization, so locking them up isnt a good idea. A lot of people without incubators put htem in the cabinets above their refridgerator, thats what I do and it works well.

Incubators usually aren't needed. If your home is somewhere between 70-80 degrees they'll be fine. Anything less than that needs heat and anything more provides for bacterial growth. Use the search bar and look for "incubation temps" or "incubation" or "incubators". If you did BRF cakes you can keep them on a shelf, in sunlight, no foil on the lid and they should do as well as any others.

I keep my jars in the cupboard that houses the water boiler, its 78-81F in there.
You can store jars on a shelf in the presence of light and they will be fine, though if they are in direct sun light, the jars could get too hot.

I'd keep them out of direct sunlight, but normal room lighting does no harm during colonization. The mycelium doesn't seem to care one way or the other. Cabinets above water heaters or refrigerators as said above, work great. A good rule of thumb is if you feel comforatable in a t-shirt and shorts, your mycelium will be happy too. RR
