This is a casing my friend did up Saturday night and allowed to rest until this evening. When he went to go fruit it, this is what he found when he pulled off the foil.
As long as he patches this, will it be ok?

id say 99% thats not mycelium... may be green mold, or some kind of weird white or brown mold... you'll find out within 48hrs. but that looks like a lost cause
sorry bro, be more sterile next time

It's definitely mycelium. This is a spore print that was made from a cake that he cased last winter. The cased cake created the same thing and that was from where the shrooms appeared.

Yeah, it looks strange, but a sample of that tissue up top is definitely mushroom material. It's spongy and smells strongly of mushrooms.

Could those mushroomy like things be sclerotia? I am not sure of this strain as when this strain was first grown it came from a syringe labeled "free".

Hahaha. It's the hippy of mushrooms. "Man, I just want to be...y'know....free" Well here's hoping it's mycelium. Goot luck.

Does it have any rhyzomes? And would you really want to mess around with a shroom when you have no idea what it is. I would find out what the "free" is from the supplier.

If it's a cubensis, then it's not sclerotia.

Yeah, it's definitely a visual strain. I have studied this strain before and made this spore print from said strain when my friend and I studied it last winter. And yes, those growths do have rhyzomes. The reason they look so flat is they were pressed up against the foil I had been using as a lid during cultivation and these trays were stacked on top of one another.
My friend currently has three strains going and all have been prepared the exact same way from the exact same materials and all done on the exact same day. The other two look exactly how one would want them to. This strain here, all of the trays have these growths on them. These growths began before we even cased them. They are definitely mushroom material. As to what? I have not a clue.
I wish I could get some better pics but I let a friend borrow my good camera for his trip out to Cali this week, so I am stuck using the crappy HP.

Yeah, I think these might be B+. They were nice to study. Like I said, before, I got this growth on a cake that I cased, but that was after it had been fruited and then mushies popped out of that thing like crazy. This strain and nice golden brown caps and hollow stems and looked very similar to pictures of B+ that I have seen.
Time will only tell.
And Funkatron, thanks for the R44's. Can't wait to study those.

it looks like mycelium to me. It looks like the thick fuzz that grows at the base of some mushrooms like gt. See it before, pinch it and see if it turns blue. Its just a blob of mycelium which is rare but I have seen it happen before with cubes. I do not know why it does this, maybe its reacting to some sort of mild contam that will never show any other visual signs. I would think that you should try to knock it down with misting or pick it off. Smell it, taste it. I am 99% sure it is just funky mycelium

It is most definitely funky mycelium. My friend hasn't really picked more than a sample of it off, just to make sure it was mycelium. Some of these blobs have even formed pins. Pictures are to come, I just haven't had a chance to stop by my friend's house yet.
