First time LC... great results.

Last week Tuesday i inoculated my very first 6 PF-tek style jars with some pretty great success using Brazilian spores. Left over i had 2CC and i decided that i would give a shot at liquid culture.
so today in the morning i looked at my jars and quickly became disappointed.
I mixed 1 teaspoon of generic brand honey with about 200ml distilled water and added 3-4 teardrops of bleach following almost no majorsterile technique minus the bleach and distilled water of course. regardless i could not see anything major that has happened within 4 days of the initial inoculation. However i soon realized that my eyes weren't on the ball so to speak. I gave the jar a small shake and it released a bunch of mycelium that had gathered near the top and bottom of the solution.
It worked flawlessly, minus the fact that i didn't add anything to stir with, until about an hour ago when i decided to flame sterilize a piece of wire and blend it to fit into the inoculation hole and serve as a "stir-stick".
I didn't follow any major tek, but non-the less it worked great and now i have a 10cc LC syringe filled with nice juicy mycelium juice, a great experience, and alot more left in the jar. I hope this helps people with pursuing LC for the first time.
I read up that bleach in small quantities works as a good bacteria eliminator but does not harm mycelium much at all. So i used it to my advantage, much like the search tool that never seems to stop amazing me.
cheers,
bzl

The last picture best represent the little white mycelium "chunklets" as i like to call them . the solution is the same as when i started and i apologize for my post a second ago, i just remembered that i did put it in a pot of boiling water the same way i did my jars, for half hour as I read on another post. Also I believe that bleach is a VERY worthwhile sterilization tool to add to LC's.

I never heard anything about using bleach as a sterilizer. I am now on day 1 of my first LC grow project and I have not bothered to even take a look at its progress. If it fails, I will add some bleach the next time around. Thanks

Bleach is safe for myc, but I'm not so sure about germinating spores. If it's successful I'm sure it's because you only used a little. Buy a PC if you don't have one

yea I'm going to buy a cheap pressure cooker when i get the money... i believe RR once said that bleach in the 10% solution, or in a small amount does not really harm spores, mycelium or fruitbodies. I am currently boiling another LC jar with a little more bleach and honey this time to see if i can get better, or worse results (not MUCH more honey). Also i have just sterilized 5 pint jars with BRF/vermiculite and I am going to inoculate them with my new Brazilian LC.
Cheers,
bzl

So you didn't boil the jars at all?

yes... in my second post i edited in that i did sterilize the jar for about 30 minutes and let it cool. Then i inoculated.

Then the bleach will have decomposed during boiling so it will have no efect at all at preventing any further contamination even if it might have killed off some of the contams in the initial solution.

true... but any contaminations that were killed by the bleach to begin with, are that much less to worry about. Better safe that sorry. Just like 1 cent and another eventually makes the dollar...

but it is like shooting a guy in the leg and then dropping a nuke on him. The nuke is going to kill him anyway why bother to cripple him?

my point is... you can't just assume something else is going to do the job for you. like would you go through all the trouble of making a still air box and not use gloves or clean it?

wrong assumption. If one thing done properly does the job there is no need for overkill.
Innoculating in a glovebox without using gloves is not doing the job properly.

this can go on for very long... so I,m going to end it. Yes, adding bleach can be unnecessary. However, some people have a lot of problems with contaminations with LC's, and adding bleach is a possible solution. My purpose for using bleach was mainly just to prove that bleach can aid in good sterile technique. Also, i have inoculated a jar with ONLY bleach added to the LC solution in order to see if it is actually possible to make a quality LC, without having to PC or boil sterilize a jar. I will post back when and If i see signs of colonization .
cheers,
bzl
