Stumped by stunted growth: An Oddity

Background: Pf tek cakes. Gt strain. So about a week ago I birthed 3 cakes. I've had various problems and my pin are still only a centimeter long. Here's the odd thing I looked at one of my jars from the same batch that is 80 percent colonization and am surprised to see two shrooms over 3 inches long. What's the deal!? What is it that makes the jars a better environment for growth than my fruiting chamber?

if a partly uncolonized cake starts pinning is either it's contaminated and the mushroom is trying to save itself or there's a problem with nutrients. something like that. enter RR!

If a cake that is still colinising starts pinning, its possible there is something wrong with that jar, possibly contamination. An incubating jar shouldnt pin, even if its exposed to light. U can incubate jars in the presence of light without problems. They will grow quite well in jars as moisture must be quite good. But again invitro pinning suggests that something is wrong.
If your pins are growing abnormally slow, it could indicate a lack of moisture. Once u see pins, u really should see growth by the day, and once they really kik of u can see growth twice a day.
Check that your humidity is high enough. Were your cakes dunked after birthing? If u didnt dunk, you can sit your cakes in a saucer of water to help provide moisture, another thing u can do (which isnt really recomended) is inject 10C,s of clean water using an empty syringe into the cake, this worked incredibly well for me when my last set of cakes took a little long to pin and dried up slightly.
What colour are your pins? if the heads have turned black then they are aborts and are not going to grow, these need to be picked before they rot. If they are aborts then something may have caused them to abort, aborts will happen but u should get atleast a good few shrooms to develop.
Could u post a pic of the jar with invitro pinning, and also your cakes with pins.
Also a little more detal, like how long long ago the pins appeared, and how long they seemed to have stayed the same size.

First of all thanks for all the responses, I would be lost without this site! The pins keep popping up, but some of them have been there for over a week and are growing very slow. I do have some aborts and can recognize them from the other pins. I should have pic ready for you in a few minutes.

I'm getting the opposite.. fully colonized spawn bag, exposed to FAE [fanning multiple times a day, often just leaving it open], exposed to light, plenty of moisture, it's gone rhizomorphic yet I don't see any pins. I'm trying to fruit invitro, the temperature is pretty warm, although it's fluctuating between day and night.

It sounds like you have a humidity problem.
The humidity will be higher inside the jar and the pins will be growing faster thatn your birthed cakes.
Maybe you have too many holes or not enough perlite.

Hmm. Sorry still don't have pics up yet. I'm having a problem uploading. I think it must be problem of humidity. When i made my FC i didn't have a drill so I just poked holes in it. The holes were larger than should be so I made fewer of them. I'll try and get some good pics up tomorrow.

Well the good news is that after steady misting and fanning that a decent amount of pins are doing well. My FC is on my computer desk so I get to see them often. And as I watched today one particular set of pins doubled in size. I'd leave the room come back in a couple hours later and got to see them as they grow. I know that is normal but it just made so happy to see it! The rest aren't doing as well but I'm giving em time and hopefully they will come though! I'm on this site so much always looking for tips and advise and ways to make em better and I have to say that even though this has been a rough start I really think this is going to pull through. Thank you so much everyone. Nibin and veda_sticks you two have been particularly helpful on number of my threads can't thank you two enough. And as I'm writing this I hear dripping sound. I look over and see water dripping off my desk and into the trash can. Well I guess I'm lucky! Looks like I put a bit too much water in the perlite! Off to rectify that now.
