If you can have friends arounds its fun as hell. Night in Wyoming is fucking awesome. You pretty much never have to worry about running into ANYBODY out there. if you dont have friends in the area it sucks a fat one though.

well, wyoming is pretty boring, but as far as colorado goes, it's more fun than pretty much every other state (if you're into shit other than watching TV.)

I used to live in Wyoming. I worked in Yellowstone NP. I have spent a lot of time in CO and it is very pretty, but where I was all the people were wiggers. I mean ALL of them.

One of my best friends lives in the Star Valley area of Wyoming. She there a few years ago and says its very cold and has tons of snow and you have to drive forever to get anywhere interesting, but the views are beautiful. She also says the youngun's over there are fucking crazy and have all sorts of crazy parties on mountains and shit. But she still says she'd much rather be back here.

I live in Denver, and it's raelly nice here. The mountains are close and bad ass, and the city itself is incredible, but everywhere else in the state kinda sucks. Boulder's cool, but places out on the great plains smell. Especially Greeley

Cost of living where my friend lives is extremely high. As in homes in the millions. She claims the county she lives in is the richest county in the US, idunno bout that, but she says prices are high for pretty much everything.
And she also says almost all the drugs they get come from colorado. And I dont think growing would work out too well in such a cold environment but I might be wrong.

I could easily live out in the mountains by myself if I had the know-how to survive in isolation. I dont think loneliness would be much of a problem, I'm not too incredibly social as it is. The finding food and shelter would be my main concern but I'm sure I could handle it. I'm a life scout! If I can tie a square knot I can do ANYTHING!
Edit: WAS a life scout... wish I had never quit but its too late now... I hated it then but damn do I have some wonderful memories from campouts...

My idea of a perfect life would be to have a small hut (made by yours truly) out in the mountains (I love the smokies) eating food i've hunted /fished/gathered. I wanna be a REAL mountain man! It really truly is the one thing I want to do with my life but I don't know how realistic that plan is...

I'm seriously thinking about just packing my car full of food and a sleeping bag and small one person tent and living on the beach somewhere this coming up summer. No hotels or anything, just the outdoors. Of course i'll keep a bit of cash handy incase of really bad storms, but I really think it would be a fun experience, especially since I grew up as a sheltered son of upper-middle class southern baptists and I really don't dig that lifestyle at all.
But I'm de-railing the thread, sorry, back to binis...

I met a Polish girl in Yellowstone my first summer up there and she wanted to see the rest of the country, so we took our park passes, and went to Zion, Arches, Canyon Lands, The Grand Canyon, and Mesa Verde. We camped in national forests, showererd at truck stops, ate food we stole from our employee dining room, and traveled for 4 months on like $600. It is easy if you dont mind being kinda smelly.

Not really, hairy legs though. Like I said, we showered at truck stops, or snuck ito campgrounds with showers most of the time.

The summer before last I went with my grandparents to see the Canadian Rockies. Stayed in Alberta around Banf most of the time, but ventured into B.C. a bit too. We were rental car/hotel-ing it, but were nearly always in small towns that didn't take away from the beauty of the mountains. I fuckin loved it up there, we went on plenty of hikes to some of the summits. Man. Beautiful country. I'm thinking about backpacking the Apalachian in the next few years. I'm not ready for it now but if I get myself into shape I could probably do it the spring after next.
EDIT: Also I don't really have any real backpacking experience (Just 3-9 hour mountain hikes) so i'll have to find someone to go it with me that knows what they're doin, but I'm sure that wouldn't be too hard.

Colorado is the shit. Lived here my whole life and the only other place I'd like to live is Portland.
My boss just purchased a 5 acre piece of land with a small house on it about 2 hours west of Denver. Last mile is all dirt road. It's fucking nice.
And the stars up there........leaves no doubt why the people of the past worshiped the stars.

There are a few hardcore trekkers here, and a lot of smaller kine adventurers, too. here's me in wyoming a few years ago. spent 3 days in yellowstone.

that was taken on the powder river pass on the cloud peak skyway, here http://www.byways.org/explore/byways/2165/travel.html

I was just out that way a couple of months ago for my brothers' wedding, those mountains sure are beautiful, took the tram up pikes peek and saw garden of the gods. I really didn't want to return after that.
