How to save America

Don't allow anyone over 50 to vote or run for political office. After that age most Americans are consumed with fear of death and safety issues. This makes them want to control everything they can and to hoard wealth. Younger people are more concerned with experience and living and have faith and trust in life. Think about this and you might agree. Tired fearful old men are in control.

Not only that, but old timers tend to stick with what they've voted for in the past without really pausing to ask themselves if things have changed. If you've been voting Liberal (in Canada) for your whole life chances are a change of vote will be difficult. I think this is part of the reason why parties like the Green Party aren't getting as many votes as they should be, imo.

Personally, I think they should be allowed to vote. Every demographic needs to be represented equally. If it weren't for the old people, who would bring up issues like nursing home abuse and overpriced medications? The real problem is that older people are over-represented because the younger people don't come out to vote. People should get voting day as a paid holiday from work provided that they show their employer proof that they voted. The biggest reason no one else votes is because everyone else has to go to work and has shit to do, while old people have retirement money and nothing else to do, so they vote.

we don't vote for a party
we vote for a representative
that is one of the few advantages of a fptp electoral system, the guarantee of regional representation ... a real person
when you vote for a party you are voting for an organization without human values
i would never vote green just for the sake of green, i would vote green because the representative who is affiliated with the green party is the best person for the job
but most people don't think this way and i clearly see the negative results of this in canada

You're right, the best guy for the job in america right now is Ron Paul and he is a republican oddly enough.

How about don't let anybody run for office...that seems more sensible.

A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

Damn, very good point. The more I think about it, the more bullshit it is that people in their 50's or older are in control.

Unfortunately that won't work. Humans mostly want to be lead. So we should make the best of a bad situation.

Sounds good. But how do u go about bringing it to reality. The older 'uns would be difficult to dislodge.

Can't do it. It's just a mind game. Just noticing where the problem lies.

i love the idea hue puts forth, but i see ice's point too. unfortunately american youth are largely brainwashed by the ignorance of their forebears. look at the emotional "maturity" of so called adults... is there something that makes you think their progeny are going to do any better?

Well my real view on the subject is quite dark and without too much hope for current civilization.
But still it's a fact IMO that youth is less unhealthy then the old ossified curmudgeons.

While we're at it, let's keep them from getting behind the wheel as well.
Or at least make them re-take a road test every 4 years or something after 60.

Yes, but senators and congressmen have that Golden Fleece policy which provides unlimited health care and stipends and such, do they not? They would not be as concerned with security and warding off the consumption of cat food pate in the future, or how they're gonna score their next Nexium.
And what of women of 50?

In India, everytime, there is an election, there is great drama. For me, it is always a choice between the devil and deep blue sea. I have never bothered to vote in my life, unless they provide the option of "no vote."
