anyone know if a tiny ammount of bleach would help keep a lc clean? i know it dont hurt mycelium, maybe makin this ok for lc cloning or lc2lc or agar? would it be safe for spores? never thought of that
also, what ammountof bleach would be good ? maybe a 3-4 drops per 100ml?

Mycelium doesn't like bleach too much, if you need to use some sort of sterilizer, I'd suggest h2o2.

NO. H2O2 damages mycelium more than bleach. RR even dips pieces of muchroom in bleach before cloning.
But using either is pretty pointless as once you boil the jars they will decompose and cease having any effect, and neither of them will be able to fully sterilize a jar on their own (without heat) as some microorganisms can survive them.

well every bit of sterility helps and im not saying dont boil anything, im just saying a few drops of bleach + boiling or pc can help better than boil or pc alone.
im pretty sure it would help those without a pressure cooker.

True.. i do not have a pressure cooker and adding bleach to my LC solution proved worthwhile. i have about 240ml (CC) of solution to work with. Give it a shot, use about 5 percent in total. A little less.

I agree with your statement Nibin... before the heat is provided i would assume that the bleach begins kicking ass to ease the load on the cooking

I have used bleach and water(1:10) and without proper ventilation, the vapors can bruise your mycelium. Does bruising use up nutrients to repair itself? If so, you are looking at this in possibly the wrong direction.

Bleach is an oxidizing agent that serves a purpose similar to hydrogen peroxide. Some bleaches do contain hydrogen peroxide. Peroxide was developed as an alternative to chlorine bleach, even thought Hydrogen Peroxide in it's undiluted form is stronger than chlorine, chlorine dioxide, and potassium permanganate. I would expect diluted hydrogen peroxide and diluted chlorine bleach to work very similarly in this hobby. I would, however, stick to the proven method of utilizing H2O2.

There is already another discusion on the effects of bleach on pinset, although this may be slightly of topic it is still inline with the discusion of bleach.
Maybe u should take this here rather than create another topic.
If u are sterilising things, then there is no need to use additives.
H202 is not really gonna kill anything, and it will break down into 02 and h20 in a short time anyway. Its only really helpful in the fight agains cobweb
Bleach is harder on spores but it still doesnt really kill moulds.
For LC's u can make them without a pressure cooker.
