St. John's Wort & Mushrooms = Happy-Ayauaska

I've been experimenting with mixing mushrooms and other things with great success.
St. John's Wort Facts - Herbal tonic to treat depression and sadness, and to restore sleep patterns. - St. John's is a mild MAOI inhibitor. - St. John's Wort takes up to 2-weeks of daily capsules to take full effect. - st. John's mild MAOI inhibition takes effect within 40 minutes.
Findings:
- St. John's makes Codeine about 3 times more potent and caused brain fog and blurry vision. It didn't seem to affect Morphine, Oxy-Contin, or Percocet.
- Taking St. John's for three days (as directed) then, taking 5 capsules before shrooms - MAKES THE FOLLOWING HAPPEN: 1. You will be overjoyed. Feelings of happiness beyond imagination. 2. Loss of visuals. Most hallucinations seem to be unnoticable. 3. Extacy and elevated mood. -(It actually feels like you just took a bunch of MDMA !!!!!!) 4. Laughter and silliness. 5. Poor coordination and loss of visual accuracy. (brain fog effect from St. John's) 6. Perspective is distorted, but major lack of visuals. 7. Emotional rollercoaster ! Happy, happy, happier still! Tears of joy streaming down the face all night long. . . 8. Tiredness, sleepiness. Then, quickly switching to energetic bouts. off/on. .
I'm absolutely convinced that St. John's Wort & Shrooms makes a cocktail extremely similar to MDMA / Extacy.
If you wanna see people laugh uncontrollably, or cry, or both a the same time. Mix St. John's Wort and shrooms together for emotional madness!
It seems more related to emotional changes/enhancements.
This is now my new anti-depressant solution. I absolutely love it. . .People should bottle it and sell it for everyone to enjoy. . . to hell with Prozac. . . this combo is medicinal for theraputic use of some sort. . .

i too took five st.johns wort tablets with some liberty cap shrooms. it seemed to intensify it immensely. i came up hard and fast, and for the first time (on shrooms) threw up. none the less it may be a mild maoi, but it does its job, without having to watch your diet etc.

If what I read is true, then an MAOI should potentiate/intensify the trip right?
I don't want to have an MDMA trip, I really want the psychedelic aspect of the shrooms. Does anyone else have any experience taking an MAOI with shrooms? Does it deminish the psychedelic effects?

I THINK that some (perhaps all? Someone clarify) mushrooms contain some levels of serotonin, thus taking an MAOi would allow some of the serotonin to cross the BBB, potentially changing the character of the trip.

Here is some stuff I could find from Wikipedia...
"People taking MAOIs need to be careful, as psilocybin and psilocin are metabolized by the enzyme monoamine oxidase. A MAOI reduces the body's ability to handle the mushrooms (roughly doubling their potency), and can lead to an unpleasant, prolonged, or dangerously strong experience."

^^Really, why wouldn't they? The only active alkaloids are psilocin and psilocybin, so that's all you hear about. There are certainly other chemicals in there. I'll do some digging and return with an answer one way or the other.

Well, a quick search revealed that there is a scientific article called "Occurrence of Serotonin in a Hallucinogenic Mushroom" however I can't find the actual text of it. It is cited in a number of places.

You're right. They may contain trace amounts. Nothing that should cause an effect though.

With the addition of an MAOi, it's possible that it could impact the trip. It's just an idea, though. Although I've never tried it, people definitely report no just an intensification of the trip, but a change in the overall character of it. Just trying to come up with ideas as to why that might be.

Yes.
Except St. John's Wort is an SSRI. You are getting less visuals because your trip is dulled.

I didn't know about this until today, but it's true! I had been taking St Johns Wart for a few weeks, shroomed about 8-9gs, and there was a lack of visuals as you say, also, there were many times when I would laugh uncontrollably, like buttering a roll, I don't think I've ever laughed harder. Only minutes later though, I could be crying, and then burst out into laughter again. Interesting. I also vomited for the first time. How long does it take for St Johns Wart to leave your system?
Sorry for the 3 year late replay :-)
