Cake Bluing while fruiting?
    #7654008 - 11/19/07 09:38 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I *THINK* I read that this can be normal but I wanted to confirm, and also verify if there is anything I should do about it.

It is a very slight bluing. You can barely see it and it is on one of the top corners of the cake. The cake is a square 3lb brick sitting on a bed of perlite, also I spray a very fine mist 4-5 times a day into the terearium and fan vigorously. The cakes are in full fruiting mode with close to 75 pins ranging from 1cm to 1.5".

I'm going to watch it closely and hopefully everything is ok... any insight is appreciated...

My cakes bruise like crazy everytime after birthing, they usually start bruising 3-4 days and always after i mist.

They could be bruising due to lack of moisture, check that ur humidity is high enough.

Since you got a good pinset i dont thin it will be too much of a problem, be sure to give em a good dunk after that flush.

After i dunked my cakes n rolled them in verm, the bruising disapeared.

Everything will be fine, also note that water landing on the cakes from misting can make them bruise, and also can harm primordia and hyphel knots, its best to stop misting when u see these, then start misting again once they have developed into pins.

Get it off the perlite or you run the risk of waterlogging the substrate. Put a plate or wax paper, etc., under it.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that. The corner that I noticed the bluing on is on the same side that I typically mist from, I think I'll chalk this up to the water droplets.

And I will def be dunking it after she's done with the first flush.

I actually did this after reading one of your other posts. It is now elevated off the perlite with a metal convection oven rack.

Thanks for the replies!
