Chemy said: It recommends shorter sentences and parole terms, alternative punishments, more help for released inmates and decriminalizing recreational drugs as steps that would cut the prison population in half, save $20 billion a year and ease social inequality without endangering the public.
That would be one of the greatest things our country could do. As a citizen I would support it 110%

I sure don't.
I think drug laws should be changed, and we should have more help for released inmates. But no way do I think criminals should get off easy to save money.
Quote:
"There is no evidence that keeping people in prison longer makes us any safer," JFA President James Austin, a co-author of the report, said in a release.
Looks like propoganda to me. Jail doesn't work? No, the problem hasn't been too long sentences. The problem is they havn't been long enough. There needs to be a more realistic approach to incarceration. People are not going to give in so easily. If you intend to keep them alive, you have to do what's necessary to "tame" them and make them safe for others to be around in society or else remove them from society.
They start talking about petty things like drugs and coffee throwing and then quickly switches over to the whole spectrum.
