Torrenting and YOU!

Hey guys, I have a question. Seems like more and more I hear or read about a torrent site going down, being raided or forced to give up it's members downloads or people getting charged years later for uploading something.
What makes Demonoid and the Pirate Bay so special? They seem to of been around forever! Couldn't a person "suddenly" have a Hard Drive fail, I.E. destroy all records of members activities if ever forced to give up such info? And how are they forced anyway?
I guess that I am trying to protect myself. And I guess that I should also stop visiting those sites. NOOOOOOOO!!! heh.
Fuck it's early.

thepiratebay and demonoid use alot of loopholes to stay up. they dont actualy host the files on there server for one and also the laws in which country the servers are in are much different then laws in US for example. It's only a matter of time before both are gone. i think demonoid is already down... and yes it is early im going back to bed

where the servers are can protect the site per se, but won't necessarily protect the owners/administrators. And if someone is charged w/ ownership or controll of the site, it may be posible for the domain to be forfitted.
The owners are still subject to the laws of whatever country they are in, not just where the site data is located.
I believe this is what has helped the pirate bay, as the servers and owners are in a country with a solid legal system and laws that don't appear to incriminate their behavior.

I see, so now it's just a matter of time before the server company that rented the threatened servers, not demonoid, are forced to give up it's user activity right?

demonoid is down due to their server being threatened.
they might pop up later. it wouldn't surprise me seeing as they always do.

Too bad this plan never went through: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/01/12/pirate_bay_buys_island/
And ya, i'm sure demonoid will be back in time.

The coolest thing about buying your own island and declaring it an independent country. Apply to join the UN and once you do, when you travel to any UN nation you get diplomatic immunity from their laws, you can kill someone, and the worse they can do is deport you.
