TERRARIUM: air exchange vs. heat keeping

I am about to fruit my myceliums in a large plastic container.
I heard some people say to only drill a few holes on the bottom of the box sides about 3 inches high. Some others say one should make as many as he can holes in it.
The temperatures around here are getting lower and lower, and will be ranging from 50 to about 65. I am thinking about heating the terrarium using the heatbomb tek to heat it.
Problem is I read this heat will come out from the tiniest cracks in the terrarium.
Say I have the luxuries of ventilating 3 times a day, should I drill at all? drill only few holes in the bottom? drill many?

Heating a terrarium from the inside is a bad idea. It leads to condensation on the inside of your FC because the outside temps are lower, and standing water is a magnet for all kinds of contaminations.
Your best bet is to invest in a small space heater that you can run directly at your FC without affecting humidity too much and without driving the temperature too high inside it.

no... it's a real bad insulated house. as a poor student I cannot afford to heat the street.
It will be hotter though when I'm here and not at uni.

Hey man Happy Birthday!
Do you have a closet you could throw it in along with a little $14 space heater from wall Mart?
I know im dodging your original questions, but it’s because what you’re describing would be an absolute last resort for me.

thanks man.
Putting it in the closet won't let any light it, and we don't want that, right?
A space heater is a heated fan or a radiator?
Anyways I'm a bit worried about heating the closet, especially when I'm not around, it doesn't sound like the safest thing to do.

If you can put your heater up on the shelf, point it to the furthest wall, and set her at 75-ish than I think you’d be fine and safe.
I recommend getting a decent heater; AFOAF has a GE model with a digi thermostat that can keep a closet accurate to the nearest degree. It’s the most consistent and hassle free method of heating AFOAF has ever done.
I’ve heard of people buying cheaper heaters and still having great results.
I’m pretty sure the one AFOAF has is a “ceramic” heater, its just a little cute mini desk top heater.
Since your routing power in the closet any way, you can throw a light in there while you’re at it.
I’ll let some others chime in on the safety issue. I’m not really sure what the general consensus is on it. But I have seen a lot of people do it, and feel perfectly safe doing it.

i have had a small electric radiater type heater on in my closet for 3 months continuos but thats for incubation my room stays at the moment around 70f which is fruiting fine but i also have a blow type heater which im not so keen to leave on as its old but an hour with that on in my room of an evening keeps the room warm enough for the night stops it dropping below 70f if your room is not much under 70f then i would leave em to fruit in that temp fae is the key more than the temprature so drill a few holes not too many along the top of the fc or i just have a few in the lid and all the others are taped up i also have a bubble stone in a pot of water for 10% more humidity and fae and as a added bonus when the pump from the bubble stone heats up it pushes warm air to rais it 2f which aint much but every little helps

Thanks for the advice.
I think I'll lay off the closet thing. It's a small closet. Not so usable for this whole setup.
I will drill some holes on the bottom, and some on the top, and hope the air exchange will do the job.
I intent to dunk and roll and spray, double end case and use a thick layer of perlite in my FC.
The Bubble Stone sounds interesting, what's that?

im sure you will be fine its just tweaking it untill you get it perfect a bubble stone is basically a fishtank pump with just the stone on the end of a hose you can submerse this in a beaker or glass filled with water and let it bubble away i leave mine on all day and turn off at night it gives me the fae and also raises humidity a little and stops my substrate from dryin out Good luck Growing, GD

I think im gonna switch to using hydroton instead of perlite, with the hydroton i thin u use about 5 inches of it with 2 inches of water, ill sit the curtains in water .
Im sure i can get better results if i have more regular FAE

Yeah mines pretty small too, 30 litre container, houses 6 cakes.
I have to leave my FC for about 10 hours on its own without any FAE. So the air curtain should make a big difference/>
