Synthettek said: Out of curiosity, how long does it take using this on-top-of-fan drying method?
I'm going to take some pictures and put it up as a butt-easy pictorial soon, just because it comes up so often.
Hardware: 01 new box fan ($12) 05 cheap paper furnance filters roughly the same size as your fan ($5) 02 bungee cords ($3)
Total cost, roughly $20 USD...plus tax and inflation, whatever. A good counter top dehydrator starts at $50.
Construction: Place a filter on the exhaust side of the fan, and place item to be dehydrated. Once full, place another filter on top and repeat until you only have one filter left. Place final filter on top, bungee cord the filters onto the fan by securing them to the back. Face the fan upright and turn it on low -- most important part here -- in a room that gets good ventilation.
You can dehydrate anything this way and it's how I make my various types of jerky for friends when they pass me along cuts of their meat... And it's just as fast as your countertop dehydrate and can be expanded for the cost of about a dollar per filter. For mushies, 6-10 hours and you'll have your entire flush dry in one run...but you have to have a well ventilated room. All that moisture your pushing off the fruits have to go somewhere and once the air becomes saturated it will not be able to push any more moisture out of the fruit and they won't dry properly.
A closed bathroom with if the fan is running or just leave it in an open room with the doors open to the rest of the house, your HVAC will take care of the rest...

yea it takes 2-3 days to get cracker dry on my fan, but my room is not well ventilated. its mainly the stems that take forever to dry, the caps always shrivel up quick. also big shrooms can take alot longer to dry than small ones.

Also Amazonian. That large one there weighed out at 88g wet.
I think that was my tallest there, about 8-9 in.

takes me 3 hours to get cracker dry shrooms, it's called a nesco snackmaster, it isn't hot enough to degrade anything. I wish the miss information that the amount of heat a dehydrator emits destroys or degrades the potency. It just isn't true. I USED to believe as you guys do, "don't use heat it destroys/degrades", it's just false info with no hard data to back it up.
go spend 40 bux, have cracker dry shrooms in 4 hours. no reason to wait 2-3 days.
I stuff mine full, and end up with 4-5oz dry per dehydrator.
