Yeah I know they are weak, but cubes don't grow where I live.

Yes Panaeolus subbalteatus does exist and no its not "weak" the avrage doseage for P.subbalteatus is about 2-2? to 3 grams. My experince with this mushroom has been very good. If properly identified you will most likely enjoy this one as much as P. cubensis. It rely involves your prefrences and if you want to take the time to be sure that you have the right species.
P.subbalteatus wolud be most likly confused with P. foenisecci a more common and inactive species that grows in much the same aera as the former. P.subbalteatus shows a bruseing response at the base of the stem where the mycelium is.( did i get it right mj? please say yes, that wolud just make my day.. )

Most pan subbs don't stain blue at the base. I was just wondering if there were any other pann subb look alikes that I didn't know about, pan. foenisecii excluded (I know that f*#$@*! mushroom all too well!)

Sorry I disagree, while fun to hunt .... you arent going to get a mind expanding trip off a couple grams of subbs. Copes and Cubes are more worthwhile to GrOW and eat. Call me crazy but I trust Stamets insight on subbs via Psilos of the world, and TMC(the greatest book).

Just wanted to stop by and say that panaeolus subbalteatus is just as potent as Psilocybe cubensis by dry weight and by fresh weight.

One fresh ounce of Pn. subbalteatus and three to five grams of dry material is equal to a Mazatec ceremonial dosage.\

This is also the same for Psilcoybe cubensis.

Which could be 1 to 25-50 small shrooms weighing one fresh ounce.

Its easier to grow the cubes because they fruit well and abundantly.

mj

NOT ACCORDING TO STAMETS BOOKS!. Is the master WRONG?.... Dont think so. I Still disagree. Ive picked and eaten subbs, in texas and they didnt compare to the cubes.

All I know is, a friend's pet ferrit found 1 large pan subb about 3 days ago, dried it (because he was hoping to find more so that I could have a decent trip), and ended up eating that one yesterday evening b/c he couldn't find any others to go with it. Fresh it was about 2.5" high and had a cap with a 2" diameter. Dry I don't think it weighed any more than 3/4 of a gram, but it definitely worked. I mean the ferrit wasn't in another world by any means, but he certainly had a very shroomy, happy sensation for about 4 hours and colors were brighter, patterns seemed more intricate, etc. I am sure if he took the same dose of cubensis then he would have had the same effect. That's my $.02
