Smoking Catnip

Yep. I did it.
At the moment I'm far too broke to afford to buy anything normally smokable through my connect (I screwed up the math on my monthly budget, so I'm about 200 short of where I am supposed to be). Anyways, I do happen to have a grinder full of keef which is absolutely delightful. The downside is, I prefer not to do knife hits by myself, and keef pulls right through a bowl, so I needed something to use as filler.
Well, I was considering tobacco, but I don't have any cigs (quit last week actually!). I was looking at all of my pieces hoping to find *something* that could be used. After an unsuccessful search, my cat was being a pain in the ass, so I figured I would distract him with some catn... CATNIP! Bingo!
I'd heard that it could be used to make a tea, and I remember on erowid that some of the people had smoked it.
So, I put a pinch in one of my older pieces, and then put a generous amount of keef on top. Results?
Well, it burns very nicely. It tastes.. different. Imagine how catnip smells, but in smoke flavor. Kinda like that. Its pleasant though, and I can see myself burning it again.
The high was very quick (as one would expect burning nothing but keef), but there was a lot of relaxation, moreso than usual. I just felt very peaceful, and calm. Imagine how you feel after burning opium with bud, but minus the lack of motivation to do anything. I was just very relaxed, and quite high.
So, how about the rest of you? Has anyone else experimented with our feline friend's drug of choice?
Crazy as it sounds, I highly reccomend it. I'm going to give the tea a shot I think... its such a nice relaxing feeling.

Catnip has very mild GABA-ergic properties. Essentially, catnip will make you slightly relaxed and has am emetic effect, so it might make you puke. I wouldn't smoke it, but to each his own.

Hmmm, thats odd. I know that cats eat it in the wild to aid with digestion... any idea what the active chemical is?

I believe it is Nepetalactone.

Yes it is: Catnip contains nepetalactone, a terpene. Nepetalactone can be extracted from catnip using steam distillation. Cats detect it through their olfactory epithelium and not through their vomeronasal organ. At the olfactory epithelium, the nepetalactone is hypothesized to bind to one or more olfactory receptors where it probably mimicks a pheromone, such as the hypothetical feline facial pheromone.

Yeah, I bought a small catnip plant from a local petstore and now it's growing out of control in a large hanging basket. But I think I'm just gonna keep growing that for the kitty cat. I can grow other things for myself to smoke.
Crazy avatar btw! Is that bloody bunnies coming out of her cooter? Same colors in your name as mine too, cool.
Congrats on quitting too! Keep it up. Your bank account'll thank you.

I tried catnip once, but its effects seemed so subtle that I wasn't sure whether anything was happening...

Same here if you mean the tea. I think I tried smoking it many years ago. If so apparently it didn't work.
I grow some for my two cats every summer. Damn I wish it did for me what it does for them. They really seem to roll hard except once in a while after eating too many flowers. You know that has happened when they are crouched down low against the wall, not moving and starring fearfully fascinated at nothing in mid air with eyes as big as dinner plates.
I kinda feel for them when the later happens. Been there a few times too many myself. lol
