what now...

well. i tried making a casing using WBS as substrate. did everything right. 100% colonized, put in my container, covered with perfect mix wich i pasteurized. i read on here it worked well. not really. ahhaa
its been 2 weeks, and the perfect mix never really colonized. i put them in the FC for shits, and started misting. the mycelium is VERY slowly taking over.
so now i already knocked up 4 qts. of WBS. and was lookin to try again, using coco coir and vermiculite i guess.
would this work well? can anyone tell me why my first attempt was a fail?? well, i actually have like 2 shrooms growing. i guess eventually they will take off, just why did it take so long!
how can i do this more efficently? lol
setup is all in a PMP. nothing majorly big here
thanks for the help

MGMC seems to be popular now...
but that seems like the same thing i have. which doesnt seem tow ant to colonize. seems like vermiculite and coco would work best
i made one with just verm as a casing layer. its colonizing fairly quick.

Can you take pics of your set up or explain it better? slow coination would probly be too low or high of temps whats your temp? Or you need more or larger air holes or a bigger air pump. Need lots more info before can reall help:( Did you wait a few days after you put it in the new container before you cased it? Like did you break up the wbs then just pour it in and case it? should wait till it reformed or colinized the sub? Really need alot more info before we can say it didnt work out

alrighty...
when i put it in my container, and cased it. i let it sit for about a week, nothing was happening. then i decided the hell with it, and threw it in the fruiting chamber.
heres the FC

heres the casings

you can see i patched it where the myc broke through first

they are in 78 degrees. humidity is 95-100% lol. im not sure how to lower the RH in a pmp...always seems to be 100%
i just find it weird the myc is taking so long. wonder if this is why?

More holes make it look like you could drain pasta in it they are fine now that they are colonized don't worry about some airborne stuff just keep the air moving. You have the wrong kind of stone you want the white perlite on the bottom other then that looking good and sweet poster man. It also maybe looks like your r/h meter is stuck right in the water almost? maybe move it up a bit. But you need allot of hole in it you get that co2 out. You also don't want any standing water at all when you put in the right rocks you don't want any water standing at all you are just asking for trouble with that.

Wow. That was intense.
Your PMP is fine, and I dig the whole shroom altar thing you have going on there.
As far as your RH is concerned, the higher the better in my opinion. Drown the little bastards. I guess that having a higher RH might make it easier for contams to get a foothold, but if you're sterile that shouldn't be a problem.
I suppose it might even be possible that they were struggling and trying to fight off some sort of contaminant.
All I can say is that you might try using a 50/50 verm/peat as your casing. And I'm not sure what you've done, as I can't quite tell from your post, but you might try incubating your cases before birthing them into the FC. I guess that gives them a better chance to grab hold of the casing before they are subjected to the rigors of fruiting.
Good Luck

I am not understanding exactly why you want to colonize your casing layer? Casings are non nutritous layers that do nothing but add humidity. I think you are getting this confused with bulk spawning. You want to spawn your bird seed or whatever is in your jars to coir/coffee, manure, or straw, or any combination of these, and THEN case with MGMC or the 50/50 +, or whatever you want. The casing layer only needs to be slightly overataken. As soon as mycelium pokes thought the top, you are ready to fruit. This shouldnt take any longer than six or seven days.

yah. see, i thought you were suppose to put it in the FC once you see mycelium. and that i did. so now i just leave it? no patching?? im sure i read all this under casings. i havent even looked into bulk substrate, cause odds are. i wont be doing it! this is the biggest i can go in this. or care too.
so now that my casing layer has alot of myc. pokin through. just let it go?? keep misting? this seems like it took alot longer than it should have.
