Thank you all for searching for poisonous look alikes to boletus appenediculatus, unfortunately i couldn't come back to read it i felt i had to go to the emergency. The hospital mycologist said that there had been many reported cases of people getting violently ill from this species. It was a pretty scary incident and kind of discouraging.

Which species was it exactly? Any pictures? How well did it match Boletus appendiculatus?
What was the sickness like, how long did it take to kick in, how long did it last?

Here was his post from earlier yesterday before he ate them.
He also notes in that thread that he has eaten them before without becoming sick.

I'm 95% sure it was Boletus appendiculatus, and i have eaten them before with no ill effects. At the hospital they put an IV in my arm gave me phenygrin for the nausia ( i was puking non stop, but nothing was coming up but yellow bile with red patches), and some pain killers. I spent about 6 hours there, once the incredible pain in my abdomin was mostly gone they gave me another dose of everything and said i could go home. I slept like i was in a coma and woke up feeling like i had a slight hangover.

The sickness was like the flue, but more painfull. Worst cottonmouth ever , felt like i had been in the desert for a month. Alot of dehydration. I ate them at 6 and at 11:00 pm i woke up needing to puke. It ended around 6 am so about 7 hours total.

I'm glad you're safe and sound. Out of curiosity, how well was the mushroom cooked, and how much of it did you eat?

It would be really helpful to see some good pictures of the species you ate.
What was the texture of the cap surface like?
How much did you eat the last time you ate this species?

This isn't the EXACT one i ate, but it had identical characteristics.

I ate a whole one before, only it was about half the size.
The cap texture was smooth possibly slimy when wet.

This picture probably makes you relive the experience:

Mushrooms Demystified says while you cook them they turn blue, then turn grey, then turn yellow. The ones in your picture look greyish-blue. Wonder if you did not cook them long enough.

Glad you siad that becuase that's exactly what happened. In that pic they're uncooked. They did turn grey, then yellow when i cooked them.
A beautifull golden brown when they were done.

The pictures sure look like butter boletes, I probably would have eaten them too.
I guess you are allergic to them.

Alan, do you think he reacted to them this time because he ate more? Or do you think it more like a true allergic reaction, and he became sensitized to them from his previous exposure?

Probably.

Hard to say for sure.

There are some similar species to those. One that can resemble those pretty closely when young is Boletus haematinus which is of unknown edibility officially but is probably poisonous. It can be differentiated by noting that the tubes turn red when they mature.
Happy mushrooming!

glad to hear you're doing well.
