How to increase logic and rational thought.
    #7650297 - 11/18/07 08:53 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I am intersted in this because i'm in a state of insanity where i don't think logically or rationally. Anyone have any advice, books to read, information that you have come across to help think more logically?

I could go to school and learn logic and i'm sure that would help. Maybe during meditation i could practice thinking logically and rationally, but i don't know how to go about it.

But for now...

Can anyone help me?

Peace,
Droz

"when you lose small mind you free your life"
--SOAD, Aerials

My *monkey mind* or *voice in the front of my head* or the *ADHD little 8 year old that lives in me* always produces thoughts that are irrational, illogical, and downright stupid. Say if an event happens, then this *small mind* offers many possible interpretations and thoughts, but most of them don't add up. You must check everything against your *conscience* or the *voice in the back of your head*. You are not incapable of using logic as you seem to notice its absence in your thought patterns. The key is just to allow the associative floodgate of streaming consciousness to flow and to understand that your imagination will come up with all these crazy, irrational thoughts, but you can choose to accept them as truth or not.

it is pretense
I reccommend star trek and Spock particularly who pretends logic to the highest degree.
also sherlock holmes mystery stories are terrific layering deductve reasoning into everything.

then again, if you are already paranoid or deluded, perhaps what you really want is more re-connection to your senses, and less of all this pretense toward being logical.

deductive reasoning, after all, is merely a relaxed train of suspicions and confirmations. it is easily expanded into delusion.

By the way Droz this statement pertains to most of humanity at one time or another.

I don't consider you insane in any "bad" way. You're just a little tweaked. You have a good heart which IMO is super sane.:heart:

  Indeed!

That's what I was trying to convey when I mentioned how my *small mind* comes up with various cause-effect relationships while trying to integrate certain events.  It comes up with so many, that some of them are bound to be ludicrous and incorrect.

I thought taking lots of drugs would do this...am I wrong? Seriously take a formal logic course or two.

I think this applies more to inductive reasoning. Deductive reasoning pretty much mathematical.

Overcoming your irrational illogical thoughts is irrational. Keep in mind that rational arises mutually with irrational, they are one. So when you choose to enhance one in a way that expresses disunity between the two, you enhance the other, to the point where you mind blurts out things, extracts wisdom from randomness and all the characteristics of someone who is deemed insane, in our collective standards, expectations, and overall seperation with oneness.

The trouble with minds like ours is that we tend to believe in the importance of truth, without realizing the unity truth shares with what is not truth. As an outcome of this we tend to try and search to increase, better, overcome, which ever, one aspect of who we think we are not(irrational), when all along what we think we are(rational) is inseperable and interdependent on being irrational aswell.

We then imagine that there is a fight, a struggle and battle of good vs. evil, when really there is always unity, unifying importance, in both.

My advice to you is embrace the irrational, do not struggle against it, as if one were more important than the other. both are one, sharing mutual importance to eachothers existence, arising in togetherness and from togetherness.

Like any thought, let it flow, give it breath, as is, brother.

--------------------
The mind is a creative tool. It searches to protect you, through message sensations(feelings). It is no different than a computer, you need to make sure its anti-virus program is in check and that it doesnt have a script that limits your experience, because of to much precaution.

And remember the computer does not appear to respond to words of anger and frustration - just give it input, in the form of new meanings that you know to be true and its messages to you and the limits it lays out for you, will change.

Guilt is an outcome of believing you are the cause of the problems.

Yet, we are not a cause to something, we see is negative or bad - Unless you believe your intentions are directed towards a bad outcome....

For me, at least, I believe I destroyed may of the synapses in my thought process. Due to utter paranoia from smoking and bugging out for a long period of time. At a time when I find a new path I sort of have to manually implant it in my brain to recreate some of the synapses that were broken.

It is all up to you. Take control of your thoughts and consciously mold your processes.
