HELP!!!
    #7649688 - 11/18/07 12:27 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Hey everyone, I can't find a suitable Tek for how many cups to fill up my 1/2 pint mason jars.

Here are the ingredients I have:
Organic Brown Rice
Organic Brown Rice Flour
Organic Flax seed(for added nutrition)
Vermiculite

and 1/2 pint sized jars.

Could anyone please provide me with a link?

Btw, my PC didn't come with a rack and I'm worried that my mason jars will crack due to high heat. Will it be okay without a rack?

Can I use chopsticks to create my own rack?

Some extra bands to your mason jar lids would work well. Or just improvise!

As stated above, I use the rings and place them across the bottom(thanks RR), This works wonders and is much better than having a towel or some other fabric in the bottom, as I have found this to cause problems, not to mention it stained my PC. Good luck and happy shrooming!

Lonnie

Added the mason jar lids on the bottom of the PC. Also added flax seed to the verm/organic brown rice flour for added nutrition. I want these shrooms to grow up to be big and strong.

Any additional advice?

My only advice from this point is.. be sterile!! So very important. And even while you're waiting for your jars to colonize, read read read, learn learn learn. Read everything about everything and soak it all up. And don't be afraid to ask questions, this forum is great and as long as you don't ask too redundant of questions the people are 100% helpful in any way they can be! :sunny:

EDIT: Make sure you let the jars cool before humping them!
And be patient, Mycelium is shy, I try not to peek until a 7-10 days in..:)

Also, even though it is too late now, I suggest you don't experiment until you have some grows under your belt.

Adding stuff that isn't in the tried and tested teks can work but if you are inexperienced the risk of messing things up is quite big.

For example, you might think, hey I'll add a bit more water because shrooms like water right? and you would end up with soggy jars that would not colonize.

I imagine your adding flax won't be a problem, especially as you are using a PC (if you were using just a pan, you would have probably got bacterial contamination).

Good luck
