Hm, are you certain those are actual Amanita muscaria var. muscaria? Did you see the the stems and observe the base of the stems? Do you know how to correctly identify A. muscaria? What state were they harvested from?
Just wondering.
And by the way, most people get sick from eating those mushrooms. I assume you already know that..

I recognize your name. I just use a dark green skin backround so I can't always see screennames with darker colors..
Anyways, Amanita muscaria var. muscaria does not grow in New Jersey as far as I know. And the mushrooms in your pictures clearly are not muscaria var. muscaria, if they were most of them would have blood-red caps. You probably have A. muscaria var. formosa. Maybe.

I have eaten the dried muscaria caps on a couple dozen occassions and always enjoyed them... I've never found them in the wild myself.

I thought you had to dry them in the oven to convert the ibotenic (sp?) acid into muscimol or you'd get sick or something?

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. Also he got a race car. Is any of this getting through to you?
