What kind of mushrooms are these?
    #7648966 - 11/17/07 08:41 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Found under a redwood canopy in Northern Cali. Was wondering what they might be. They have slimy orange caps with yellowish stems. They bruise a dark blue/black color as you can see.

Probably Hygrocybe. Why are in a plastic bottle?

Also, read the rules of the Mushroom Hunting Forum. When you make an ID request we expect you to give us all the details. See our Sample ID Request Form stickied at the top of the forum.

Hygrocybe conica, the witches hat.  Cool mushroom.  Not anything you'd want to eat though.

Right on.. thank you so much. Gosh, there are literally a million mushrooms around these parts. Sorry about not giving all the info, but I didn't have much more to add other than that the gills were white. Thanks again!!!

i second what GGreatOne234 and xmush said .
mushrooms don´t bite or run even that are consider toxic, only if you eat then . take those off the bottle .. open one speciem and see al the changes of colour but is already bruising in some.

Come on now, you are making assumptions. I already opened the shrooms and observed them in the woods. I would have just left them there since I didn't have anything on me but my pockets and my water bottle. I was nearly 6 miles away from my car, so I decided to put them in the bottle. I drank all my water so I could save these guys for your viewing and now you are giving me crap about the bottle.. As a wise man once said, "AS IF!"

Fair enough, I was just wondering how they wound up in a bottle like that.
