Monotub block already shrinking from sides of rubbermaid right when pinning is starting

Should it be sprayed? Seems like quite a bit of metabolites at the surface though. Odd. Is it normal for the thing to shrink at this point? So far there is a 1cm gap from shrinkage between block and wall of rubbermaid.
Also: There is no casing. It started pinning before a casing was able to be put on.

completely normal.
that's a major reason why I line the insides of my monotubs with black plastic.
the plastic will stick to the sides of the shrinking substrate preventing air, light and humidity from coming in contact with the sides.
without the plastic the sides become exposed and pinning from that point on will most likely happen at the sides, which is more of a pain.
anyways, normal as all get out.

iiiinteresting, thanks. since pinning was inadvertently initiated, they are being blasted with 24/0 for the next 4 days, until 12/12 (or possibly 24/0 depending on the situation at hand)

The pulling away effect is the mycelium consolidating its nutrients. Most often, is indicator of water being used up. Just colonization requires a lot by the mycelium, making a little pulling natural at this point. At this point, I think a good dunk after the completion of this flush would be your best remedy.

Plastic bags help alot, with contamination too. When the bag mycelium condenses and shrinks the bag sticks right to the sides and keeps everything except the top layer un-exposed. Helps for easier dunking too IMHO.
Pulling away from the sides is perfectly normal upon that stage.

what about before pining starts?? im growin PE and the substrate has already started shrinking from the sides. i hear that PE can take a long time to start fruiting tho.

its normal before pinning, infact thats probably when youw ill most likely see it, as the mycelium is eating and digesting the substrate before it fruits. It happens with cakes, once fully colinised and consolidated, its usually atleast a few mm smaller than the jar and just slides out easily.
Its happened to every one of my crumbled cakes in mini double tubs and my newspaper double tubs. It always shrinks by a cm before fruiting.
