Spawnbag Inoculation
    #7647520 - 11/17/07 12:45 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I'm wondering what the optimum amount of inoculant would be for spawnbags that contain somewhere between a 1/2 gal and 3 qts of WBS. If anyone could give me any advice on that it would be appreciated.

I also tried preparing WBS w/o simmering and I found that the WBS didn't seem to absorb that much. I strained it until it no longer dripped and then left it still a little longer. There was still a little moisture on the outside of the grain that I was hoping would cook into the grain and soften it a little but it did nothing of the sort.

So far I think that the WBS that I simmered took off faster. I would like to hear people's opinions on that. I was hoping to be able to skip a large task in simmering the WBS but if the spawn isn't going to perform as well I won't do it. Let me know what you think, or if I'm doing something wrong.

I use about 3 CCs per bag.

As far as the grain being wet...it almosts always looks wet until after pressure cooking. In my experience, my grains also looks wet after PCing, but only for a day or so. The grain either absorbs the moisture, or evaporates through my micropore tape.

Simmering is vital(in my opinion). I've had better flushes with grain that was simmered then with grain that was not.

Just my 2ยข...
