yeah, i recommmend wiping it down, maybe spray some lysol around depending on the surface, and if you can, maybe bleach or perhaps add a little peroxide to the water if you cant. might as well make the effort if you are gonna make the effort to start a shroom lab, in the same time as it would have taken you to post this. go go go!

Dust is where all the nasty contaminants hide. Simply moving about in its presence stirs it up and that could cause horrible things to happen. Dust is you enemy.

Fully colonized cakes are pretty resistant to contams but it won't hurt to clean everything up as after a few flushes the mycelium weakens and becomes more contaminant prone. By cleaning up you'll get an extra small flush or two

No. Birth wherever your clean enviroment is (i just do it in the kitchen), then dunk in water for 18-24 hours (never more than 24) in a covered container (tupperware or similar) in the fridge and roll in dry verm. Put the cake in the fruiting chamber, mist the hell out of the verm so it is nice and wet and wait to fruit.
Ps: The reason we dunk in the fridge is not to "cold shock" the mycelium as some people say (P cubensis is tropical and doesn't require a cold shock) but to avoid bacterial contamination that can happen due to sitting in water for 24h.

im definitely a fan of the predunk, although it can take longer to get pinning and your flush, your flushes will be bigger and bigger boomers too.

I've kept my tubs in a pretty old closet which I also stored my crappy clothing in. I gave it a quick dust and wipe down with an anti-bacterial cleaner about once every two months. Though I was taking a risk keeping the terrariums there, I never did run into a serious contamination problem over the course of one year in that apartment. I always made sure to fan the tubs well outside of the closet and tried not to disturb the clothing I had in there any more than necessary. It wasn't ideal, but sometimes you have to work with what you have.
