hardware driver question
    #7645403 - 11/16/07 07:11 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

i just did a format on a computer that had the oem operating system on it. i installed an older version of windows and now most of my onboard hardware isnt working, including the built in ethernet card. (i had to take one out of another computer and plug it in to get online). my question is what can i do to get my hardware working if the manufacturer only had available drivers for the stuff on windows vista? (on running xp now)

If the computer came with a manual (a motherboard manual specificaly), you'll need to check out the model number on that ethernet card, and any other hardware that is not working. This info could be on the net too.

You can also pop open the side, and look on the motherboard itself.

Right click My Computer>Manage>Device Manager, then double click one of the devices you're having trouble with, and click the Details tab.

Go back to the Device Manager, and look at the device window that's open.

See where it says something like PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0058 ?

Well look at the device ID repository I linked you to, and look up those ID's.

Odds are you'll be able to find the drivers you're looking for.
