When you greet someone, do you prefer hugs or handshakes(or something else)?

Of course it depends on the person.
Sometimes I do the handshake/half-hug combo.
Full out hugs are usually reserved for women and old friends I haven't seen forever.

I chose other because I would bow or wave I think, but something else. I would definitely hug some people but generally speaking otherwise I probably wouldn't. I don't hate handshakes although I don't like the idea of being forced to shake a womans hand, and you never know where there hand has been, or your may be dirty for that matter. I don't like people who are inflicted with western chauvinism either, who use the "manly" handshake as some sort of baromoter.

I only shake hands occasionally. Usually when I first meet someone or at the end of a pool game( the good sportsmanship thing). After I know you for awhile you either get classified into a hug category or a smile and a hi.
There's alot more people in the smile group than the hug group.

Just thought I'd give my $0.02. I actually prefer hugs regardless of sex, but not if it seems awkward for the other person.

I just give the old head nod. Otherwise handshakes. I don't like hugs unless its someone I haven't seen in forever.

Depends on the person, but I have hugged strangers before, just to make them feel uncomfortable.

A hug for a friend, but probably only a handshake for a stranger. I have boundaries with people I don't know very well.
