Hi, i drop acid every weekend and im kinda over it. ive taken mushrooms a couple of times before, but was unimpressed. ive made the decision to start cultivating my own mushrooms to ensure potency/safety/etc. anyway, i was wondering about lighting in my grow tank. whats the optimum light spectrum? if at all they need one

mushrooms grow best at 6500k, or "natural daylight flourescent"

basically any bulb / florescent grow light is fine. most say they like the blue spectrum, but i don't think it will change anything vs using a regular 40w light is only needed to initiate pinning, it doesn't effect growth or potency at all.

um Enothe, no.
While any light may work to a certain extent, what u want is a fluorescent in the colour TEMP of about 6500K.
Even a compact fluorescent that u can get at 6500k will work miles better than a normal bulb.
Quote:
More specifically, since most fluorescent bulbs don't list their color temperatures in Kelvin, you'll be looking for a "daylight" colored light bulb. You'll find that your mycelium can convert from it's vegetative to fruiting cycle very evenly an thoroughly when you use bright lighting in those color temperature ranges in a natural 12/12 circadian cycle. (Personally, I've also found that cycling the temperature 3-4 degrees slowly over the course of the day in the same type of cycle helps promote thicker, fleshier fruits as well.)
As for indirect sunlight, keep in mind that the sun itself only produces light in the 5000-7000K color temperature range during the middle of the summer months... mycocurious

6500K if you really want to get picky. The reality is that they will fruit with virtually any light.
I've seen beautiful flushes with regular ambient incandescent light as well as lower wavelength fluorescence around the 3000K.
Trust me man, people will preach about light, but it’s unfounded. The fact is that there are many things that must come together in order to get a good flush and for me, light is on the bottom of my list.
This flush by mushroommark was achieved with an ordinary incandescent bulb.

6500K is definitely overrated. Just use what you got lying around.

Sure, you can half-ass the light and still get a crop. You can half-ass a substrate and still get a crop. You can half-ass a fruiting chamber and still get a crop. You can half-ass on air exchange and still get a crop. You can half-ass on humidity and still get a crop. However, if you skimp on all of them, you get nothing. If you work hard on every aspect of growing, you'll get spectacular results. That's why those of us who know try to advise on the best ways to get the results most of us are looking for. RR
