Take a look at this pic taken an hour ago. This is after 10+ days, post inoculation and its the only jar of five that shows any sign. Is this just mold or is this indeed mycelium? Any thoughts? BTW - working with B+

This was my first attempt at inoculation so i wouldnt be supprised if there is some contam. Heres a much larger pic...any thoughts? Out of 5 jars only one has started to colonize. bad spores i think. (sporestore.com)
im thinking about trying again with pint jars instead of 1/2. seems like you can get more fruiting. also do you think that one spot of mycelium could colonize the entire jar eventually>?

I know that you are excited and that cakes looks great. Soon the mycelium will for rhizomorphs that will look like roots reaching across the vermiculite. Now with cakes you should limit the side to side movement of picking them up and rolling it around because the verm layer on top can move around and allow some contams in. It is unlikely but still a concern. You have a good thick verm layer up there and perfect substrate compaction. Be sure to give it a few days after it looks like it is fullt colonized before you open it up.

how do you allow air exchange in the jars? What are some methods? I read somewhere that it speeds up colonization?
Also, I picked up 24 1/2 pint jars today...can you not get much fruiting on them? I'm a first time grower.
Also, is it okay to keep the syringes in the fridge?

The inoculation holes should provide plenty of gass exchange.
When done right, half pint cakes can fruit pretty well.

Heres my 2nd grow, the biggest fruits were around 10 grams each, plenty for a nice dose for me.

Thanks for the tips and yes, i was pretty excited to see that white spot sprout up after 10 days of waiting. I just wish the other jars would colonize. I think i may have bought a bad syringe. Is it necessary to keep the foil on the jars still? Also, in your experience do you recommend using full pint jars instead of 1/2? Im thinking about giving it another go with another strain and with larger jars....

For the pf tek 1/2 pint is normaly recomended, they will take longer to colinise and are more likely to stall or contaminate.
But people have succesfully used pint jars for the pf tek. So i would just leave them be and they will probably be fine.
Theres other things that can cause problems, like having too much moisture in the susbtrate can cause slow growth.

saw you used sporestore, just wanted to give a warning got ripped off by them, only had one jar out of 12 reach maturity and when i cased it the mushies that grew were not cubes or any other actives at all. you can trust all the sponsors on this site.
