Larger Fruits

Friend's first attempt was successful, but fruits were smaller than expected. Most measured no larger than 1.5" How do you get those large mushies?

assuming he was using cakes, the way they grow is just the way they grow

Syzygy. No complications with colonizing. WBS then cased. She tried a coco coir / coffee substrate that just started to fruit.

Could it be just spawned WBS cased made the fruits really small?

Get a strain that is made for big mushies like B+ or you can try deepening you substrate. Lack of sufficient moisture will make em smaller too.

The first casing was WBS cased. The second grow (just began pinning vigorously) was WBS to Coir, then cased. I'll let you know how that changes things.

The first casing was about an 1.5" deep which could have been the problem. The RH was no lower than 75%, with it around 85% most of the time with constant misting of the casing layer.

A casing shouldn't be more than 1/2" thick unless you're using a six inch or more substrate depth, which doesn't work well with cubensis.
In addition, you want 95% humidity, not 85%. Fruit size is mostly related to moisture content of the substrate, provided it doesn't waterlog. constant misting of the casing layer is not advised. It needs to be misted well, and then allowed to partially dry out before misting again. There needs to be evaporation of moisture from the casing layer for the mycelium to perform well. RR

My mistake. The substrate was only about 1.5" deep with the casing layer just covering the substrate so that no mycelium was visible at first.
There is a problem with sustaining humidity at 95%. How much of a drop in fruit size should be expected from not sustaining humidity at 95%?

i believe that the humidity level is most important at the surface with is what the casing layer helps with.

the 3rd flush of WBS+Coir yielded 5-7x more weight.
