Excited! New to agar, lots of questions.

So a little background, Ive been cultivating via multispore for about two years now, half a year doing pf a year and a half on grains (and still perfecting) anyhow, I'm comfortable enough with my rye preparation and inoculation/sterilization procedures now to move onto bigger and better things, AGAR! I cant wait to get a good isolate!!!
I bought this stuff called Eden Agar agar, sea vegetable flakes. Ingredients are seaweed and gelidium. Problem is I could not find any Potato dextrose or Malt extract but I do have a over whelming amount of dextrose.
Question one, can I use dextrose with the agar in place of PDA/MEA?
Second, after reading, the prep I was using was to add the agar flakes/dextrose and then poor into 1/2 inch canning jars, let it solidify and then PC for 20 minutes, once the agar has hardened will it stay solid during the PC?
After I get growth, do I just cutt off the section of mycelium producing the quickest, strongest growth? then transfer that to another jar and further isolate the best growth?
Any input would be greatly appreciated, I am really excited about working with agar now and feel like I'm doing some big steps into mycology, this is so much fun.
Take care

do a search for agar recipes there are a million recipes to follow then congratulations the world of agar is allot of fun finally i PC m agar in a container that will A fit in the PC B have a narrow neck . you also have to put a filter in the cap of the agar container to allow for expansion and contraction of the agar without pulling in contaminated air .. I used a tyvek piece doubled up in the lid of the narrow neck jar like a whiskey bottle .. and there is a hole drilled in the cap to allow air to pass through .. then after Pc'ing .. you let the agar to cool enough to handle but its still liquid .. so you pour agar plates in your glove box and let them cool on a flat surface .. I cover mine with paper towels to further shield them from contamination .. after the cooled for a couple of hours then you are good to go . good luck

Can I heat the agar/dextrose in water until it melts and then poor into the jars, let it cool and solidify and then pc for 20 minutes at 15psi?
or will it turn back into a liquid under that tempature?

yeah it will turn back to liquid all right .. they just dont recommmend melting it too many times .. I bought a commercial MEA mix from a vendor here .. and it works great .. I couldn't find the agar agar anywhere to make my own .. I just mix the premade mix with lukewarm water then PC for 15 minutes .. let it cool enough to handle then pour .. easy as cake. its not that expensive either ..

I must make clear .. that its much harder to PC agar plates when they are in the plates already .. you get water intrusion and all kinds of headaches .. its much better to mix .. PC them in a bottle with a filter lid then pour .. keep them in the GB or put them back in the sleeve after cooling .. good luck
