Question about Sq-Ft Weight Ratio [AUTOMATED APPLICATION ]

So say i'm thinking about getting some
- Spawn - Pasteurized Bulk Substrate - Casing
I Should be able to work out a way of figuring out how much of each one I need for a set SQ foot of growing space on the Casing.
I should be able to write a simple web app to put in some values and get a answer that can be counted on to calculate the weight of each ingredient and round it up to the nearest pound.
Say I have a rubber-maid with 1sq.ft
I tell the program its size it asks me how deep I want my substrate and what its going to be, Manure, Bulk Straw Substrate, Casings, Rye, Wild Bird Seed, Popcorn or Hardwood Substrates it figures out how much substrate i'm going to need and then how much SPAWN at the same time. That way if you are doing 10 or more sqft then the sub don't go over 4 inches worth of sub once its mixed with spawn. Nothing waisted nothing wanted.
It then askes you how deep your casing soil will be and what it will be made up of. example 50/50 and 60/40
You get my point now how do I get it in the works?

Are you writing this yourself, or asking someone to write it?

I would have to learn to program first so no not any time soon. But I can help with it. I can get data for the different variables of the program.

That wouldn't be hard to write into a microsoft excel spread sheet If the formulas were figured out ahead of time.

This kind of idea is very intriguing... I hope that someone who is willing to put the time into researching the proper values to input for the calculations will take up the cause.

You want volume. Square footage will tell you exactly how much substrate will cover that area in an impossibly thin layer . From what I've seen a 4:1 substrate:casing ratio seems good with about 1/4"-1" of casing on top. So if you have a 1 sq foot tub and you want four inches that 12*12*4 = (14.437*X ) + (4*14.437*Y) where X = cups of spawn and Y = cups of substrate. Someone wanna check my math?
1 liquid cup = 14.4375 cubic inches

I could code up a web app for everyone to use if you guys can feed me the formulas...

I just gave you the formulas theoretically . I just need another math/engineering type to verify.

youre just working with volumes. simple l*w*h and such. there are formulas already posted. why dont you research them and quote them in this thread.
If you did that, I would be willing to make it into a flash app and/or excel spreadsheet.

Because I enjoy thinking about stuff like this instead of just copying . I like problem solving. And it's not so simple because he doesn't want the total volume to exceed his set limit instead of having a substrate volume added to a spawn volume. Alright, after some napkin math I come up with 19.949 cups of substrate with 4.987 cups of spawn for a 576 cubic inches (12*12*4) volume tub.
