Ok I just made an awesome find at Fred's Discount and they had PCs there! They don't even carry em at WalMart! Well Freds gets all kinds of surplus and random crap new every week, so i definitly lucked out.
4 1/2 qt PC for $20.00 It fits 3 pints or 5 half pints at a time.
so.......
I am reading up on making my own jars, I have some yellow popcorn and am going to use that first. Also my friend is bringing me some rye seed.
Ok lemme see if I got this right, for grains such as popcorn,WBS, rye seeds or berries you just fill the jars up 3/4 of the way everytime?
How much water should I put in the PC? it says in the instructions do not overfill. If I have water going up 3/4 of the jar is that good?
Also is the method for BRF cakes the same? Fill 3/4 of the way up but then verm is added for a filter layer on the top?
I know these are noob questions, but when I searched I got too much conflicting info.

first you should soak the grains, popcorn, WBS, etc. for 24 hours. (With WBS you'll want to strain the sunflower seeds off the top) then strain them out and rinse them until the water runs clear. after that you want to simmer (on low) for about 45 minutes.
when you get that done you'll want to strain them out again and rinse them pretty well. then load then 3/4 the way into the jar. put on your pollyfill lid or tyvek (both is good) cover with foil and tape it on good then PC them for an hour at 15 PSI (dont start counting the time until it hits 15 PSI.
let them cool over night and your all set.

Most people I've seen follow Doc's WBS Tek if you're doing WBS. For rye berries just do a search for rye berry tek I suppose. The main points I've seen though is soak, simmer, drain, put in jars (no verm), PC, inoculate (if you use an LC shake, if you used a spore syringe don't shake), wait till around 30-40% colonized and shake to evenly distribute mycelium, then wait for full colonization, shake to break up and mix into substrate and case.
