I signed up for Scuba Diving!
    #7639651 - 11/15/07 12:54 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I am getting pretty excited.  I spent my entire childhood (till about 18yrs) underwater with a mask and snorkle on freediving the depths of the Okanogan Lake in BC.  I remember the biggest achievement (to me anyways) of my childhood was when a buddy and I were on a hunt for some missing sunglasses.  First we tried getting a hose down there, but the pressure proved to be to much and I couldn't get a single breath.  So we grabbed a manual foot pump, and hooked that up to our hose.  I was down there for like 20 minutes looking with no luck, but I was completely elated at the fact that I was breathing underwater.

Recently, during one of my frequent lucid dreaming sessions I found myself underwater talking with friends.  I remember thinking to myself "Holy shit!  I can breathe underwater!"  And in the moment during the transition between dreaming and waking up the words "Scuba Diving" lit up in my minds eye with the luminous ferocity like that of a Las Vegas Strip sign.

I immediately got up and started researching dive schools.  I cant wait!  Pool sessions start in January.

Any one else here into scuba diving?

:hippie:

I used to snorkel every summer in the FL. Keys, got my scuba certification like a year ago.  I haven't gone yet tho, just like me to pay out the ass for something and never use it.

I do have a sticker that says "I'd rather be scuba diving" tho.

Yeah, I really love to go diving. The feeling is like nothing else I've ever experienced. I imagine it is very similar to being in a zero G environment.

I just recently got PADI certified while in SE Asia. I have never been diving anywhere else, but it's definitely top notch over there. I'd like to get into it more, but it is just SO expensive. I'll definitely be doing it anywhere I can afford it though.

If you are ever planning a big trip for diving and have tons of cash, I would check out Palau. I have never been there, but I recently read alot about it and it is supposed to be some of the best in the world. They have a jellyfish lake (freshwater and they don't sting) where you can go snorkelling. It's supposed to be incredible. Anyways, check it out if you want.

I just got my NAUI open-water cert. I've been diving almost every weekend for the last two months. There have big swells and a rainstorm recently, so the last two weekends have been worthless.

My wife has been certified for a few years, already. Now that I am certified we can go whenever we want together. She even has her own gear :-)
