Is perlite interchangeable with vermiculite?

My B+ syringe will be coming in today from spores 101. This is my first grow, and I will be using (12) 2 liter soda bottles for my 12 small Brown rice flower/vermiculite cakes. When it comes time to flower, can I put a layer of vermiculite instead of perlite at the bottom of the bottles for better humidity? The only reason I ask is because I have a ton of vermiculit, and wanted to avoid spending any more money on the perlite. Alternately... do I even need anything to aid in humidity? If I spray sterile water into my bottles every day, should I be ok (I dont mind spraying everyday). And also should I drill holes in my soda bottles. Sorry... lots of questions.

No..
Perlite had a MUCH larger surface area wich allows for evaporatio to happen. That keeps the humidity up.

spend the extra $4, it is highly beneficial to your new hobby. you'll want to drill holes and/or fan regularly. fresh air exchange (FAE) is integral to growing.

you don't even need any extra rh with the coke bottle trick. Just put the cake in the bottle as is. You could even dunk and roll. You WILL need to fan 2x a day, but that's it, in my experience.

dunk for sure. you will be pleased with the results. you shouldn't fear contamination from a dunk so much, if you do, a fully colonized cake is a bit more resistant than it was in the jars. as long as you wash your hands well and use clean water there shouldn't be any issues.

FYI the reason a fully colonized cake is so resistant to contam is because there is nothing left for a contam to eat...

Ok.. I'll try the dunk n' roll method. Soak for 24 hours. Then place into sealed soda bottles... right? I'm definately not using my well water from tap. I'll use bottled water, but should I sterilize it first?

eh, tap water has been fine for me, but do as you wish. don't bother with sterilizing it though, not necessary.

Performance will be poor at best. Try to set up a way for air to get in and out. At the very least, poke a dozen nail sized holes in the coke bottle. RR

Well, I was going to fan fresh air into the bottles twice every day, won't that be enough?
