This is a short write up on how to make a decent glovebox.
Things youll need: Clear silicone sealant ($3),8x10 piece of Lexan plexiglass ($3)(Homedepot),Black sharpie marker,Razor knife,1/8 3mm stainless steel rivets($3),1/8 drill bit,Rivet gun.
Buy a rubbermaid container or something similar.[image]
[/image]
Next cut out two holes. You can use a coffee cup and trace it with a black sharpie marker.

Next place the plexiglass on top of the glovebox and trace it with a black marker.

Now take the plexiglass off and make a square one inch smaller all the way around inside the bigger square.

Take your razor knife and cut out the smaller square. Then drill 16 even holes all the way around with the plexiglass on the glovebox.

Squeeze silicone around the inside square.

Now rivet the holes and your done!

Same kinda idea as mine, except i havnt done the plexi glass lid yet.
One problem i had was that even with a stanley knife, it was really difficult to cut the plastic without breaking it.
Heat the needle and it should melt threw easily, it might look a little messy but it works

I do something very similar to this with the sole exception that, while wearing a thick leather glove, I use a blowtorch to heat the open end of the can up and use it to melt the hole. I'm a little less afraid of a minor burn than a slip-up using a razor or whatnot to score through the plastic...
Also, as a minor improvement, if you go to the hardware store, you can find a drain plugs in the 2.5-4.0" range, one of which should fit in the hole you cut out so you can "plug" it while you wait for the lysol or oust to settle out of the air in your glovebox.
Still on the craftsmanship. I go out of my way to find clear/opaque tops for the totes because I'm lazy, lol. That and I *hate* gloveboxes all together but they're a necessary evil for some things (agar culture work especially)

I used this box to inoculate 11 jars and didnt get any contamination. The first time I filled up a spray bottle with 91% alcohol and sprayed the hell out of the inside. Then I let it sit to air dry. When I went to sterilize the needle a fireball shot out the holes and almost blew my eyebrows off. I almost stuck myself with the needle too lol.

there's no reason to attach gloves to such a small box. Just make sure you wear latex gloves and fresh tyvek sleeves before you put your hands inside. Using the "plugs" works a lot like the gloves until you're ready to uncap it. As long as you're thrusting your hands in and out, it's still relatively still air in there.
Oh and lol, I never use any fire inside my glovebox, very much a no-no, lol...

thats why you sterilize your syringe needle outside the box.

Thats a great idea! I'll get some plugs for the holes today. I never liked the idea of having open holes when I store it.

i like the upside down idea because the taper goes from small down to large which makes it easier to lean over and look down into. it places your arms in a more comfortable position

forunately, i got skinny tiny arms, so gloves are a nice idea. heres a great idea to get gloves attached to the box. one thatll make confused people happy =]
BUY PVC COUPLINGS. Comes in all widths, and like a dollar and change @ home depot.
JUST today i bought two four inch wide couplings that match the hole size, they also were like 3 inches thick which isnt too big.
stick it in your holes evenly and use some form of silicon or caulk adhesive to seal the tiny cracks. (i bought this cool thing that dont need a gun for 2bucks and change)
now buy long sized yellow dishwashing gloves(around 2 dollars) stretch it over the inside and use packing tape or something to keep it in place even better.

hah glovebox improvement tek!
