I FINALLY got my hands on some scutellaria nana seeds, out of 5 sowed I got 1 seedling and its doing great. ill have pics up later today.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any info on this plant. I've searched a lot and I only find the same description each time.
anyone have any experience with consumption or growing?
some questions I have (I've searched for the answers but can't find a thing)... -what part of the plant has the highest percentage of actives? -how old should it be before the first harvest? -are leaves/stems worth smoking, or just the buds? -growing tips? like ferts, lighting, stress or no stress, watering, increased potency.. -what is its natural habitat? -dosages -possible extracts? -info on the active chemical(s)

hey man nice to hear from you to!! a lot of stuff happened and I've been gone for the past couple months =/
pretty sure it grows in the desert too. I have it in miracle gro potting soil but I'm wondering whether I should wait for it to mature a bit and move it to harder soil/sand mix or keep it in fluffy soil. it feels like a desert plant, its only maybe 2 inches tall but its the strongest seedling I've ever seen and its already beginning to realy bush out

I would keep doing what you are doing then and when it comes time to transplant to a bigger pot give it a soil with some sand in there. I would also stay away from miracle grow soil. You can probably get Schultz's potting soil at the same place you buy Miracle Grow.

I used miracle grow potting mix, set the seeds on top of the soil and just barely covered them.
near 100% rH, I put a baggie over the pot. took the baggie off a week after it sprouted, now sitting in about 50 to 60ish % rH moist soil
set 3 inches under 80watts of flouros
about 80F
I've read, and now can say for sure, that the germ rate is really low. 20% so far for me, but I have more seeds so ill see how it turns out. however, you only need on sprout and you're good to go, cuttings root very fast and easily. I already have 5 rooted cuttings from a 3 week old mother plant

"Grows 8-30 cm tall. Likes light, well drained soil in full sun or part shade. Tolerates drought once established. Should be cut back in early spring to promote new growth. Likes a lot of root space as it will send out runners. Purple flowers."
That's all I've seen
It seems like there is more info on Scutellaria lateriflora and Scutellaria galericulata. I don't know if these 3 grow in similar locations or by similar growth parameters...
There's this too:
"Skullcap, Scutellaria sp. Skullcap is a very good calming herb to smoke. I find that the commercially available Scutellaria lateriflora is not very strong as a smoke. Almost all commercially available Skullcap is too dry and stemmy to make a good smoke. The Scutellaria galericulata the more common plant found growing wild in the United States is much stronger. It is roughly equivalent in strength to good Marijuana leaf or bud shake. It works in almost all cases. The nice green leaf is easy to roll and blends well with many smoking mixtures. It is one of my standard smoking ingredients.
I have found through blatant experimentation that the desert species of Skullcap, Scutellaria nana, is exceptionally strong. We affectionately call it Mad Dog Desert Skullcap. Mad Dog Weed is another common name for Skullcap as this plant was used to treat rabies in the past. Found throughout the Great Basin the small, nearly invisible plant is as strong as the highest quality Marijuana. Unfortunately, it will cloud your head and make you tired unlike most of the other herbs we use. If you live in a desert area you should definitely try your local little Skullcap. This herb is so strong I urge mixing it with other herbs."
There seems to be a gray area on what is and can be called Mad Dog Weed. I've seen stuff on the internet described as "Mad Dog Weed" and its not actually Scutellaria nana (The supposed best of the three) but instead it's Scutellaria galericulata?
